I was thinking of going down the Adaptronic route as opposed to an N1 or Megasquirt.

Has it developed to the point I can just plug it into the Cap and load a standard map into it?

Pretty much.
The ecu file would depend on what sort of sensors/inputs you have either stock or aftermarket and when you install it you would run it with VE tuning to fine tune the fuel map.
There are plenty of us on here that could help to set you up an initial ecu file to load to start with.

There are a few issues you should keep in mind if you go the Adaptronic way.

- hesitation when getting on the throttle from idle. Might be fixed by an analogic TPS, but I haven't tried yet.
- cold starting issues, which I've almost managed to sort out. I'll post my settings later.

Apart from that, I'd say it's quite a fine piece of hardware / software.

an analog tps would help heaps in respect to this, would make it possible to set Transient throttle via map estimation.

1. I have never had any problem with throttle hesitation from idle only initially up the rev range when changing gear but soon had that sorted.
2. The initial cold start problems were to do with the water temp enrichment settings during start & warm up and I think most people have them sorted now also.

I fitted one to my son's cappo a couple of months ago and apart from a couple of bad engine earths and an alternator problem it took about 2 to 3 hours to calibrate the engine sensors and about 1 hour to set up the initial map file and I havent touched it since.

Excellent. This seems a much better way to go than an N1.

The plan would be to fit it to the stock engine and get it running nicely, then tweak it as further upgrades go on.

I dont see a pnp loom on the Adaptronic website. Did you guys have to make your own?

Is it the 420 or 1280 ecu? Has anyone tried the Vidgauge yet - looks v cool!!

Ther's no pnp loom available, thry made ours up as part of the group buy, you'll have to make up your own. You'll need to get the short loom then all you'll need is a socket - one of us can give you the wiring diagram, and an inital set of maps for it.

It's the 420c we're all using.

Grant has a Vidiguage but I don't think he's posted any pics yet!!!

Does the Adaptronic have an ODBC port?

The Vidigauge is really cool but I only have a 3 inch screen in the dash at the moment so I just put one or two gauges up at a time. It is a really excellant help when tuning on the road and I have plans for a larger screen when I get around to it. There are a couple of pics in the KOF33 thread.

The Adaptronic does not have an ODB port but a serial port you connect to a laptop.
You can download the tuning program from the Adatronic website on any computer and play around with it once you load an ecu file which are also on the website or we could provide you with one to check it out. Download WARI V3.0
You dont have to have it connected to an ecu in your car to check it out.

Shame about the obd port. Seems most ofter market ecu's dont have them.

I was looking at adding an in car pc, and the software on it can connect to an obd2 port and display all sorts of info - a-la nissan gtr.

The after market ecu's don't have them becuase i assume that once your familiar with the software you will be able to see any item / sensor failing in real time.  Adaptronic software in essence is the next step up from OBD giving you realtime information / logging etc and the ability to correct / tune on the fly.

If i remember correctly the realtime monitor page also flags up anything that the ecu doesn't think is right.

I'm not sure if the software has an open lisence (spelling) but if it does i'm sure it would be easy enough for someone to write a different UI for an in car pc with dash display.
