So after smugly declaring how good my car now is, the effing thing won't start!  It smells of petrol when I crank it so I am guessing I have flooded it.

What's the best way to unflood a cappo?

So I left the car overnight and it still won't start!  It cranks and cranks but nothing happens, it smells of unburnt fuel.

HELP!  What do I do?

Does the Adaptronic have the mode where you can floor the accelerator when starting to stop more fuel being put in?

Other than that you could pull the sparkplugs and allow the fuel to evaporate. Or perhaps pull the fuel pump fuse and crank.  This is how a lot of immobilisers work so I can't see it causing any damage.

Drop me a PM if you would like to be added to the ClubCappo Member Map.  More details can be found here.

Thanks chaps I'll give that a go.  I googled it and saw that people remove sparkplugs to let the flooded fuel evaporate, but I much prefer the idea of the fuel pump method, no tools required.

I will post my results later...... fingers crossed!

What plugs are you using at the mo.  I found i was having exactly the same problem with mine on cold start.  It got so bad i swapped back to stock ecu to make sure i hadn't damaged anything then when it still had slight cold start problems switched from my DCPR8E plugs back to DCPR7EVX the car starts perfectly first turn with the stock ecu.  I wonder if the Adaptronic has problem coping with spark plug cold start problems until its 100% setup.

That's a good point Marc, I have 9's in there at the moment.

8's seem to be about right, although I use non-irridium 8's in the winter to get over the cold starting issue.

I'm guessing your 'cranking fuel' is set too high - as it was set up in oz and they don't understand cold mornings Try the cranking fuel settings I posted in Kei's 'Getting Her Setup' thread, they'll be slightly low for your injectors but not by much.

When staring the car turn it on, let the fuel pump build up pressure then try starting. If it doesn't fire turn it off then try again - cranking the engine before it decides to fire just doesn't seem to work. And don't touch the throttle!

...and yes Andy it does have a 'Flood Clear' function - cranking with WOT turns off the injectors.

Correct, its the middle of winter here now and its freezing, it got down to 12C last night.

I think 9 spark plugs are to cold and 8's should be fine. They seam to work well in my cappo albeit a tad warmer over here.

Update!

I changed the plugs to 8's, car still would not start, in desperation I tried origional ECU and car started perfectly, even thought the injectors are too big.  I scratched my head and then did what I should have done before changing anything - checked the gauge window - I had no MAP reading DOH!!  I checked my wiring and checked again, nothing wrong that I could see.  I then tried connecting the stock MAP sensor and guess what, it gave a reading and car started first time.

Verdict, dead 3 bar MAP sensor!!!!  I will get on to EFI parts tomorrow for replacement!
