I am in the process of rebuilding my baby, and have recently had several workshops in the Sydney area ALL tell me that the Adaptronic was crap! WTF!! And most of these workshops have been trying to push the LINK G4 ECU.

Any thoughts and comments on this guys?

Ive dealt with a fair few ECUs,  really comes down to any ECU is only as good as its tune.

Top of the range motec is going to be crap with the wrong numbers in it.

For a daily any ECU is going to be able to work fine so saying any particular ECU is no good is not really fair/accurate.

My advice would be if you arent doing the tune yourself that you use the ECU that the tuner you have chosen is most comfortable with.

I really think it comes down to what one particular installer is familiar with / are agents for.

I would ask the workshops specifically why they thought the adaptronic was a poorer option than the link, why it is superior and decide if you actually will need any extra features.

Has the link been used on a cappo before? Does the link use the factory sensors in a cappo? You could be up for setup / dyno costs if not.

Who would be doing the tuning? Which adaptronic ecu were you going to use?

I chose the adaptronic as other members here had already used one, thus the initial setup had been done and I could use a base map and wiring configuration that were known working. By going this route I was able to do the install myself, and it all started 1st time.

Disclaimer: I use an adaptronic but its the only aftermarket ecu I've played with myself, although I had a wolf3d years ago in another car, but that was setup by tuners.

As Brett said above it's up to the individual, tuner and selection of ecu as to what you want to achieve.

If you want to be safe just go for an N1 or similer ecu which basically plugs strait in with maybe some other parts like spark plugs or injectors.

The idea of using he Adaptronic or any other brand was just to have another alternative. Like any progamable ecu it is only as good as the tune.

Why did we pick the Adaptronic?
One obviously because it can be tuned with a laptop at home but also because of the adapability with standard sensors or basically any aftermarket ones you may fit.
Also it can be removed and used on most other cars as well if youy chose to do so or sell your car.

Thanks Grant, Brett and Streeter.  As you said Grant, I liked the Adaptronic becasue it can be tuned on a laptop with the standard sensors or aftermarket ones, and I can pull it out if I want to. Further to this, like you said Brett, it has had such success with so many members on this forum, as well as other forums with cars using the same F6A. I was just really unimpressed with the customer service I received. The workshops I went to didnt even ask why I wanted to use the Adaptronic and almost laughed when thats what I said I had in mind.

Thanks again guys! I appreciate your help.

No worries. Don't forget that because you're in Sydney, the real experts are at hand locally as adaptronic are based there

Actually Brett, Im in Canberra. I didnt even bother with the workshops here, because most mechanics wouldnt know a claw hammer from a screw river, let alone have even ever heard of a Suzuki Cappuccino. Thanks again mate.

My mate was using a megasquirt in his mx5 and he was able grab base maps off the forum and then he did all the tuning himself on his laptop at home.

I've been thinking of running a haltech unit with a haltech digital dash aswell, 400+cc injectors and use e85 fuel with approx 70%-85% ethanol.

Now that the prices of the adaptronic are comparable to the motec/haltech stuff i think its all the same for street use really.
And ive got a few mates with ethanol based cars... while its good, forget about doing long trips on the stuff lol.
