Hi Chris,

I believe that Toyota show and shine event was a once off. That club is dedicated to Toyota so i'm not a member of. Some of their members do up cars for skid pan, while others restore them for show and shine. You'd also get a few who restore cars but not afraid to push it on the skid pan as well.

Skid pan is generally very tame, there isn't really anything to hit should you lose control. Its also not harsh on engine or tyres compare to the RAC long track and Barbagallo raceway. The highest you'll get is probably 2nd gear and maybe 90km/h on a 2L turbo. I'd imagine the speed is less for the cappuccino due to them being less powerful to accelerate in a given length of straights.

There are also other car clubs that consists of mostly restored old cars, but they're more american muscles and english vintage stuff or hot rods. Not quite the same as cappuccinos.

Team Fusion is a small private car club started by a few car enthusiast back in 2007, its an invites only club, and you gotta know someone from the club to be able to join. Its a club for all japanese cars and imports. They used to organise a lot of car cruises, skid pans, charity fund raising, they've also entered autosalon. The club is not very active anymore because the founders and admin members are too busy to organise events these days. I know because I'm one of the co-founder of the club haha.

Hi Ken

Thanks for the insight about the clubs you mentioned. And being one of the co-founder of Team Fusion? I'm impressed!

Some time ago, I was just toying with the idea of getting together all the Kei sports cars in Perth and meeting up say once a month and go for a jaunt in the countryside, stopping for lunch in some country restaurant. The idea sounded really good and I tried it just once. It wasn't bad at all.

The idea is not dead and buried; but I am thinking now that as there isn't a car club aimed specifically for these small sports cars in WA, how much work is entailed to get such a club recognized and established? As a founder member of Team Fusion, you would be well placed to give me the expertise of your knowledge.

The Kei sports cars are: (a) Suzuki Cappuccino; (b) Honda Beat; (c) Suzuki Cara and (d) Autozam AZ-1. The AZ-1 is a badge-engineered version of the Cara. (A good comparison is the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ: same car but different trim and badging!)

As a background to all this, the Cara is a Suzuki designed- and produced car; but like the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ, they farmed out the production to Mazda (under the Autozam name) to produce "their version" (the AZ-1) while Suzuki continued with the Cara!

Hi Chris,

Looks like there isn't anyone else contributing to our conversation, I'll move the conversation to private messages instead. =)
