Hi guys I'm only new to this site and I currently own 2 gti's (one in bits). I am flying down to Melbourne next weekend and am looking at buying the white cappuccino that is for sale down there and driving it back up to Brisbane. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this car?

Cheers Andy

Hey man it was advertised on redline gti as an eoi, not sure if this helps but the only place he advertised. From what I know the engine was rebuilt at 87xxx and currently at 99xxx. Was rescued from a ladies yard with some surface rust that has been fixed and treated. The guy selling it also has multiple gti's and has had it up on the hoist.

Cheers Andy

Hi guys the drive back to QLD was long and uncomfortable. It's such an amazing car and goes so well. It did not use any oil from the looks and has no coolant loss. Cruised at 110 most of the time. Has a fuel leak somewhere as when I had the air vent set to take in air it was quite a strong smell. Also as I am giving it throttle before it builds pressure there is a farting sort of sound and also when releasing. These are the only real problems apart from some surface rust.

Agreed, well done Andrew,

The farting sound is probably the old "Cheap noisy dump valve trick" which should not be an issue.
Sounds like the fuel leak is in the engine bay so it may be one of the seals on the injectors as I had that same problem once.
Should be easy to sort out and hope to see it in the flesh before to long.

Yea I think it is that also with the injector. If I take them out to get sorted and cleaned would it be worth to take the intake plenum off and give it a bit of a smooth out with a dremel and polishing pads?
After further reading and looking it is not the ABV but more of a moaning sound when going on and off the throttle.
Would it be safe to pump the boost up to 1.1bar on the stock engine without changing too much?
I'm thinking of sourcing a slightly larger air box possibly from a gti to give a bit better air flow without having an open air filter in the bay would this work?

Cheers guys can't wait to have it on the road and registered.

yes.
depends if engine is healthy.

You can up the boost to 1.1 bar on a stock engine OK. That is just below the ecu boost cut.

You would need a controller cappable of holding a very steady boost level though to avoid spiking.  Setting it at 1.0bar should account for any spikes and still give a useable increase.
