So, I had a good weekend till my turbo blew... noticed an oil leak, followed it up and sure enough was the turbo. The oil in it was charcoal black and had aluminum flakes in it! No damage to the engine at least, caught it in time I suppose...
I've been talking with Jesse Streeter on getting a replacement, we have a few options on the go but I want to ask on the differences of the turbos. I'm not looking on upgrading, and having to worry about the ecu / injectors and all that mess right now. But Looking at the different RHB31 turbos is still almost mind boggling. The turbo in there now is RHB31 VZ25. The ones listed for a cappo are VZ24. What difference am I looking at on those? Also I've seen VZ9, would that fit or no?
Such bad luck with this car After this the only thing I haven't replaced would be the clutch and transmission...but I better not say that too loud or I'll be looking for a new one of those next month. |

Awww man, thats rough.
Are you sure you shouldnt get this car exorcised?
Plenty of Caps being upgraded/scrapped here, maybe you could grab a turbo from them? |

Don's the man to ask about this as he did a lot of research into what would fit the AZ1 and what wouldn't... |

Don = FXDillon?
If so he's already mentioned what fits in the other thread. |

Well yes and no. He did confirm that the stock cappuccino turbo will fit. Which is great. It has a bit less power than the az-1 turbo but at least I have that option.
Now I'm wondering what my options are on upgrades or similar sidegrades that don't require much or any special fabrications. Going by the costs I'm looking at I'm starting to almost consider an F100-m set...but again I don't know whats involved with that swap. Intectors, ecu and turbo I know, but does the ECU in that kit work for the AZ-1 (I've only seen the F100 listed for the cappuccino, and is the turbo a direct fit?
I've been reading through this and other forums like mad trying to get a picture of all my options but conversations kinda flow this way and that and its hard to figure out sometimes whats what. Like what about the options for HT07, GT12, RHF4, etc. If I understand right they all 'can' fit but all require extra fabrications, and probably upgraded ecu's
I really should have planned out getting an Adaptronic ecu when I was thinking about it late last year...That would have made this turbo thing a lot easier.
Hoping Don or anyone else can help me out here. I Really appreciate all the advice yall have given me so far. |

Don have fitted an HT07 on his AZ1, it's not really hard to do. You would need to grind off a little bit one side of the turbo, and to buy the good water pipe that fits (cost me around 70¤ iirc), and that's all.
But be aware that it's a turbo that spools later than the stock one, and it lags quite a bit. In exchange, it can make potentially a lot more power. I kinda like it, but some people don't. |

Thanks Ricou, I'm looking at 2 options now. 1 getting a rebuilt stock turbo from Japan. 2 getting an F100-M kit... Fairly big difference there I know but If I can get the bigger kit I might as well. If its not an option I'll default down to stock.
From what I've found myself and please correct me if I'm wrong, but the F100 kit is a direct bolt on. It comes with the ecu and injectors I would need. The ECU would Probably be the cappuccino ecu but to make that work with my AZ-1 I only have to change 4 wires on my stock loom? I found that picture Don posted showing the wire descriptions of the cappo and az plugs. depending on availibility this will cost me the same (give or take a wee bit) as getting the turbo rebuilt locally.
the second option I'm lookng at is buying the cheapest stock turbo I can find on yahoo japan (ie http://page22.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/l51186072), and using that as a core return on a freshly rebuilt one. This would end up being about 1/2 the cost if my maths hold up at all hah. |

Yeah Andy I was looking at that one. Is it actually available though? On the monster sport website it lists as renewal / in development. So I'm guessing it would be some kind of back order type deal. Also the F100-M lists on yahoo japan for 30,000Y less which is significant. |

Basicly anything that will fit the cappo will fit the AZ-1 although there might be minor clearance issues with the oil filter if the impeller side is larger (like on the HT07). That's the one thing you'd need to check if you go for the F100M, which does sound like a good option. I'm guessing the "renewal / in development" means they have never actually had an order for one, but the cappo one will fit with minor wiring changes.
Make sure your exhaust manifold is in good condition if your going down the upgrade route - it's going to have to do a bit more work. |

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to go with stock for now so I can get the car back on the road asap. Then plan out properly exactly how I want to go about an upgrade. I was planning to go with an adaptronic ECU anyway, so not doing the F100 right now might be best. |

Your best bet would seem to be to get hold of a decent, 2nd hand cappo turbo then. It will fit straight on and the difference in the turbo actually makes the car easier to drive at low speed, it just feels like it runs out of breath a bit sooner. |

Thats what I said earlier. Try a 2nd hand Cap turbo from a breaker and fit that til you decide whether to go F100 or Adaptronic.
Also it will save you a wodge of cash, just in case you find anymore gremlins in your car... |
