You need 12" long fingers, a vice like grip, asbestos hands and a lot of patience.

Hope that helps

Not sure this is the best way but.....
On the car I am stripping I managed to get the Distributer off complete. then you can work on the cap assuming it all go's back on just as it came off.
The service manual is very vague "Remove cap"

Did you check the timing when it went back on Yorkie?

I tried to get mine off, but couldnt get to the bottom bolt no matter how hard I swore.

The same caps been on it for 7 years now.

I took the distributer off to sell it did not go back on the engine.
The same cap has been on my silver one since new 1994 17 years!
Have you a problem? why are you taking the cap off?
AFAIK there are no wearing parts only the gap adjustment between rotor and CMP sensor. Is there wear at high milages?

I've taken my distributor off to access the cap, seems the easiest way. Done it about a dozen times now...

Always look for the simple solution first.
I usually have everything out and then check the fuses

Il be buggered if I can figure it out. Nice one Suzuki. I have a misfire on cold. Was going to change the cap and rotor arm as a matter of caution but I think I won't bother

There's a trick to getting it out.  I've found stubby screwdrivers with a square shaft up by the handle.  That way you can apply as much pressure as possible and turn the screwdriver with a small spanner.

Once off you maybe lucky enough to get a new cap with hex head screw bolts.  Then its a case of 1/4" ratchet to put on.

I try to replace my dizzy cap every set of leads, it's a little over the top, but you'd be amazed at how much build up you get on the contacts.

I got it off. Few. Took the two asjusent star screws off. Tapped it left and right with a hammer about 10000 times to loosen it off and eventually it gave in. Took it apart to find the contacts have corroded like hell. Suprised it even ran. Cleaned it all up. New rotor arm installed. Put a bit of engine oil around the o ring and flange. Lined up the off centre pin and slid in lovely. Tightened everything back up. Turned it over. Nothing. Dead. Some dum a** forgot to reconnect the wires. Reconnected. Turned her over and the misfire was gone. What I did notice though is the main lead from the coil was arcing out against the bodywork.
Re routed it and was just like new

Well. That was untill I bit the bullet and lifted the carpets.........

Good advice yorkie. I got here because I have a misfire and I was wondering how to get the distributor cap off. I'd already changed the plugs (one was brown, two were black) but no joy. I started thinking it's an injector problem or a distributor contacts problem. I saw Yorkie's advice. In the end I waited for some new leads and it fixed the problem (so far so good). Simple solution first.
