So in December me (Ed) and my partner Michelle purchased this little gem.
Since then we serviced it cam-belt and water pump.
Had a little issue with the radiator fan not working... Nothing but a little cleaning of the connectors on the relay and snapped back into life.

Recently now we are happy with the car and it's being all good and reliable we have purchased a few little bits for it.

These thanks to Donna (fuzz)

Got some American import number plates for it also.

And a rear strut brace thanks to Andy (doodle....something)

Hopefully getting the wheels refurbished (in white)

And will be looking at the brakes also!
Shall update once I start hitting the work.

Look forward to meeting you when you're on leave buddy. My first suggestion will be the lift the carpet and see what the floor is like from inside. As mine didn't sell on eBay, it's now gonna get played with a bit and getting enjoyed before I stick it back up for sale next year sometime.
Should give us a good bit of time to get out on our fav roads for some fun driving

When we bought the car our reverse light and fog light weren't working... Turned out that moisture had got the better of the internals.

So we got some new lights and fitted them along with some new mesh

So I got a text from Ed saying I had a consultation with Double S in cullumpton, a stainless steel exhaust specialist.
I drove down there for the appointment and they had a look at the rotten old exhaust. I explained I wanted a more sporty purr to the exhaust but no annoying boy racer farting noise.
Later that day I came back to a custom built stainless steel pipe from the catalytic converter back.
Look at the art work they created.

What a sound it replies too. I am very happy with it!

Do you mind telling me the charge for a full stainless exhaust? I would like to see what the going rate is as this is the next major purchase.

Thanks

I paid 400 of the queens royal mint?
There are much cheaper places. I had a quote from a company near Birmingham for 150, but...... It boiled down the convenience for me and I'd been recommended buy about 5 people that double S in cullumpton do a very good job and are very good at looking after your car.
So I took that option.

Yes the whole car needs a dam good going over.
But we bought the car in December and when I was home didn't have much opera unity or give up in the weather to get onto in!
Then iv been away since then.
Should be back to the uk in July to clean, detail and fit all the toys.

Then it'll be more than an update of what iv bought.

Your car looks fantastic. What kit did you use to create those results?

My mate detailed my Cappo, he had been wanting to get at it for a while as it was in not a great condition, but everything he used is on that thread. Its still in great condition a year on! Mind you it hasn't seen the UK winter so probably why and i was meticulous with cleaning it.

It's amazing stuff that foam.
Do you have to have the special kit or can you do it with a home kit?

You can do it with a home kit, which i am sure he uses. You definitely see results with it and it transformed the look of my car!

Just wondering as I'm pretty much at the same stage as you with the gasket replacing and turbo off but I'm torn between a fresh standard turbo or a custom starlet turbo set up.... hmm...

Well my turbo is still on! It's a pig to get off! And on further inspection I think I have a small crack in my manifold.

Ah crap! Yea mine was an absolute nightmare to remove too. Had to fight with the rusty bolts and ended up getting all them out of the cat-turbo flange by using an assortment of sockets and adapters but broke 3 of the 4 in the process! Great fun....
Good luck dude!

It can be a sh*t of a job the first few times you attempt it, always use hex head sockets where you can with lots of penetrating oil and should the crap hit the fan one of these can get you outa the resulting mess.

Well the turbo and manifold are out now! I had to cut away at the engine bay with a hacksaw to give me the space to get something in the bolt to get it off! So now I have some more welding to do on it!
Manifold will need welding up also.

I wouldn't bother welding the manifold, if your lucky it'll last a few months but I think I've only ever heard of one lasting a decent amount of time on this forum, for the cost and hassle in swapping them, you'd be better getting a new one for somewhere around the £130 mark, delivered.

I know its too late now but an easy way of removing the downpipe to tubby bolts, is to undo the turbo to manifold first and you then have just enough space to access the manifold to head bolts (low torque about 13nm ish so can be undone with an allen key and spanner).  Now you have space above the turbo, undo the two downpipe to exhaust bolts and the catalyst chamber mount bolt (accessible via passenger wheel arch) and remove the turbo and downpipe up through the engine bay.  You can work on those crappy bolts on a workbench.  If the downpipe refuses to come up and the car is sufficiently lifted you can drop them out the bottom also.  I've managed to remove an entire exhaust system, downpipe and turbo from a cappo with it only slightly lifted off the ground (hard but can be done).

Mines welded now tho and it'll be the one that lasts the duration.
