I am trying to get more miles out of one tank of fuel. Currently I am getting approximately 270 miles.

I am playing with the idea of having my ECU converted to an N1 ECU. After reading some past threads, this may be a viable option to give more miles. However the car then requires high octane unleaded. Although I may get a few more miles out of one tank, does filling up with more expensive petrol mean that this is false economy?

I know the upgraded  ECU come with a few performance improvements as well, but is buying the N1 ECU solely for more miles per tank a worthy reason in the long term?

Thanks

While the N1 can be more economical than the standard ecu given that you spend less time on the throttle I don't think it's going to give you a big saving.

Your getting about 10 miles per litre which is similar to my own figures running the N1, on the very rare occasions I think I've got a few more miles from a tank but with the added cost of 97 / 99 ron its not working out cheaper.  That's not including the £500 you'd have to spend on the conversion.  Plus you'll have to take into account those times you'll drive the car harder because you have that extra performance.

Haha, well you do far better than me. I get about 200-220 before I fill up. If you drive at 50mph as much as possible in fifth gear then you'll get more miles, as that is peak economy speed while not being on full boost.
