Today I will be embarking on my longest ever car adventure. I will be flying from Bristol to Inverness and driving back, via the A82, to Bristol in my new '93 Suzuki Cappuccino.
Journey length, according to google maps, is 550 miles.

I will update this thread when I am back, hopefully with some pictures of the journey as well as some photos of the car.

Wish me luck!

Cheers,

Sheffy.

Awesome! The roads coming back from Inverness are epic, especially around Glencoe. Perfect place for hooning a Cappo around!

I did indeed make it and I will try and add some pictures of the car tomorrow.

The car was as described (sort of) but there are some problems that will need sorting.

Firstly and almost expectedly there is rust starting to rear its ugly head in a few places. Described as a few minor blemishes in paint work.

Windows are very slow and the drivers door is a bit dodgy. I can push the window away from the frame and it takes some of the trim with it.

There are a few more minor niggles that I will hopefully get round to sorting and probably even more I haven't noticed yet.

HOWEVER..

Before I even start on any problems that I discovered, today I started the car and it failed to start. Tried again and the 'check engine' light turned on. Gave it a little while and tried again and she fired up and the light went out.
But when I revved it between 2-3k ish it made a horrible squeaking sound that wasn't apparent yesterday! To make matters worse it was accompanied by some smoke. I will get videos to explain it tomorrow hopefully or rather hopefully not!!

Fingers crossed its nothing major although it certainly seems it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated but I understand it will be pretty impossible without a video.

Speak to tomorrow.

Cheers.

UPDATE.

The squealing was the alternator belt, which decided to snap before a long distance drive at night. So unfortunately I had to call off driving back to university.

I have since had the alternator and 'fan'? belt changed. However the motor factors gave us the wrong alternator belt, which I had read about but completely forgot to tell my mechanic when he was picking up them! 10x613 instead of 10x600. The correct belt has been ordered and is sat here awaiting fitting.

The larger, incorrect belt does fit and does sufficiently turn the alternator but occasionally squeaks loudly.

At the same time I have also had the engine oil dropped and replaced with a fresh oil filter. Also a set of new spark plugs which weren't cheap @ £35 for 3!

Also a genuine suzuki airfilter went into the now-clean air box. The airbox wasn't connected properly so now all back together it is running much nicer.

Still to be done is the gearbox oil and differential oil as well as a fresh coolant change. Whilst doing this I also intend to flush the radiator out.

Whilst cleaning the car I also noticed a few more bubbling patches of rust which I intend to sort out over the summer.

I will keep this thread updated, hopefully with some pictures as I will have a lot of work to crack on with.
