I am trying to remove the prop shaft, so I can replace the gearbox output shaft oil seal. I have removed the transmission cover, the 4 bolts attaching the rear of the prop shaft to the differential, and finally the prop shaft support bracket.
Whilst the front of the prop shaft slides along the gearbox output shaft, it does not slide far enough to release it from the gearbox shaft.
The rear of the prop shaft will not detach from the differential flange. I have tried Plus Gas and some gentle tapping with a hammer, but the rear of the prop shaft remains stuck to the differential flange.
Is there some bodge (such as trying to screw a bolt into the two unthreaded holes on the differential flange) to get the end of the prop shaft to release it's grip?
Is the end of the prop shaft a flush fit with the differential flange, or is there some protrusion or locating feature that prevents the end of the prop shaft from moving sideways, when hit with a hammer?
Any help is greatly appreciated, as unemployment prevents massive expenditure on using a local garage to remove the shaft.

I assume you got hold of a seal then
Have you removed the prop shaft centre mount? Because each end is articulated there's a chance that by dropping it the shaft should shorten enough to free itself.
Thank you for your reply. I have now managed to remove the prop shaft. For information, the universal joint end has to be prised away from the differential flange, using a small screwdriver in the two holes in the flange.
There is a feature on the differential flange, that locates into a recess on the universal joint, and is a tight fit.
I have prised out the old oil seal, without removing the gearbox. I used a large socket and hammer to tap in the new seal.
