Dealing with the common Cappo problem of a rotten floor.....Mine was totally rotten, so here is what I did:-
With no replacement floor panels available (like above) I thought my Cappo was toast. My local garage are honest and said they had neither the time nor the set up to sort it out properly. And if they attempted it, it would cost a fortune. I can't blame them as they never claimed to be a car restorer. Not willing to give up, I did some head scratching and I think I have cracked a solution. So here it is......
I have worked out that MG Midgets are nearly exactly the same dimensions as a Cappo. But unlike a Cappo, aftermarket Midget panels are very readily available!!
Such as these...
There are even rear bulkhead repair panels (number 12) just ripe for Cappo plundering. When you think about it, Cappo and Midget are the same two seater, rear wheel drive little boxes of fun.
What I like about using Midget floor panels is that also available is the surrounding panels too. These being cross members, inner sills and bulkhead pieces. And they then all fit together. I absolutely wanted to avoid a patchwork of welding, so big proper floor panels fitted the bill.
Stripping interior trim myself was easy enough which saves costs.
So, I found a Welder to do the job:-
Scott - based in Birmingham scott.m.motors@gmail.com 07838 455133 £20 per hour. Will travel to you within 1.5 hrs (which covers a big slice of UK) Very happy for me to post this about him. Just say Adam sent you!!
Scott has been great. Happy to let me help out in prepping the car. I borrowed his sander and cleaned up the bits which were to be re-attached. Easy for the unskilled person. In my view anything that cut down on hours and I could do, no matter how boring, I did. After welding was completed, all the seam sealing and painting fell to me - again reducing costs.
Marriage of Midget and Cappo was a learning curve for us both. The passenger side was completed much quicker than driver side. I reckon a minimum full week to do two floors. So that's at least 7hours per day x 5 days = £700. I split this over a few months to spread the cost. It will depend how rotten your car is.

Not got a bottom photo yet. Before the car got down off axle stands i sprayed a quick cost of paint. But it has been too cold and I've been stuck in work since (god damn making a living gettin in the way of Cappo time) Over Xmas I intend to have a day (heater on) sorting out underneath and will post a photo when I can.
I might add some detail into the above post too on bits to watch out for.
For now I willl just add that if your Budget was £1,000 then it should cover all the extras along the way. Panels, paint, I bought a pipe flare tool for like £12 Ebay etc etc
