I have a bearing grumble noise when the clutch is engaged in neutral which stops when I depress the clutch. Not knowing much about the subject I thought it was the clutch release bearing. However, looking on line, that's not logical and people are suggesting gearbox input shaft bearing or pilot bearing ( which I had never heard of ). Gearbox is out and pilot bearing and clutch bearing are out ( I have new parts ).Both are not terribly loose but hard to tell. Is input shaft bearing fault common? I'd rather have it looked at than put the whole thing back together and find the noise is still there.

Its good practise to replace the input shaft bearing when you do a clutch. Its the small bearing in the flywheel (12623-70800) should only cost a few quid and easy enough to fit.
