There is a cappo for sale in Fort McMurray of all places right now!!!

http://fortmcmurray.kijiji.ca/.....R-W0QQAdIdZ111455129

Not bad looking, but it must be frozen!

I would hop on that deal, unless you are still getting one imported from the UK/Japan. I paid 10,000$ can for my cappo and I had to drive from Alberta to Saskatchewan to get mine, the only negative I'd say about this is pretty high km, but i think i was just lucky to find mine with under 60,000 km on it. Also I'd make sure you either know a shop that will pass the out of province inspection for you, or be prepared for the list of things that might need changing to meet Canadian import laws.

I'd jump on it but the timing is just not right, and neither is the colour. I'm thinking Red or Dark Blue, preferrably dark blue.  I'm set for a JDM car now, finding the last good auction house has given me more than a bit of confidence. The price will end up around 7 to 8 by the time it arrives so it will be close to this listing.  I'm also going to look for DOT lights on my purchase.  Daytime running lights would be a problem if there wasn't such an easy fix on this site.  I have a good shop about 3 blocks from my home who can help with anything else.

But you're right, it's a great deal and if it was dark blue, I'd be on it like white on rice. But the Cappo fund won't be full until June.

I agree, I'm not a huge fan of the silver. I was lucky my cappo is dark blue w/ midnight purple pearl, it goes well with black/carbon fiber look i'm working on.

DOT approved headlights/taillights etc don't exist. Rather you should be on the look out for ECE-rated(Economic Commission for Europe) lights, They have a Capital E in a circle:

These will pass inspection (given there aimed right) I've called transport Canada and have confirmed this. Even if your cappo does not come with these lights, they can be purchased from cappuccinosport.

In Alberta I needed to replace headlights/taillights/turn signals/third brakelight/had to add a second reverse light and also needed to get side markers put on bumper that illuminate when the park lamps are on.

when I get a few extra minutes, I'll make a thread with all the required information for any future Canadian cappo owners.

Thanks.  Bob_g had told me about the markings before, so I had a little insight, but I hadn't heard about the side markings, and a second reverse light. They are good points to know.  Anything else you could add would be great. It would be nice to have a thread that lists everything the average person would need to import a Cappo from Japan or else where.

Did you buy your Cappo in the last year?  I swear I saw a dark purple one advertised in Saskatchewan in the last year on Kijiji.

Cappo Sport also seems to be the best resource in the world for Cappo parts.  I've only skimmed the surface so far browsing their site.

Hi

There may be another one for sale in Montreal by "Almasi", he posted some pics last year somewhere over here. It was imported from Japan 2 years ago.

Definately going down the import route unless I can find a good blue or red one in the country.  I've been following the auctions and the prices are down a bit, but so is my fund at the moment.  It's gonna take time

It's starting to look like summer of 2010 now, things are slow here, house repairs have become more important and I acquired a motorcycle again.  I'm thinking I will wait until 2010 and get at 1995 so I don't have to worry about timing belts.  I hate those things!  One the other hand the winds of change do shift!

I'm walking on glass already with the wife over the AZ-1 debacle... Even the mere mention of another car would have me sleeping in the garage with the cat. And sharing its food!

Im pretty sure the one you saw advertised in saskatchewan is the one I am now the proud owner of. =)

Alright here is a little list/pictures of the item on the car that did not pass/where not even on the car for the out of province inspection:

Other than the basic inspection items (engine leaks, brakes, tires tread, DOT approved glass!! etc...)
Day time running lights are a big must! Also all lights need to have the E in a circle on them, head lights, brake lights, 3rd brake light, signal lights(front and side). On the side of the car you also need to have side markers added(that are dot approved) that come on when the head lights are turned on. The side markers have to be located in front of the front tire (yellow in color) and behind the rear wheel (red in color) and yes the color matters!

These are all the lights I replaced:
(if you look close enought you can see the new e rated markings on the lights.

Old side signal lights vs new e rated

Old front signal lights vs new e rated

Old brake lights vs new e rarted

2 reverse lights

last but not least the side markers, I had to take my cappo to a local body shop to have holes put into my front and rear bumper, then had to take the car to a car audio shop to have the lights wired up along with the day time running lights (I'm mechanically inclined, but when it comes to electricity I am clueless.)

Blair - holy big pictures, batman!

Are you sure about the side marker lights having to be installed in front of the wheel? My front lights are just behind the front wheel, in the original spot, and it passed just fine.

Princess Auto has a great selection of LED reflectors.

I took the inspection book, from work and photocopied it, it is dated 2003 so things could have changed.

Section 6 note g) side marker lamps: Four. Located two on either side as close to corner as practical, front amber, rear red, clearly visible, activated by head lamp control.
- Height less than 350mm (14in.) above road surface.

Interesting. On my Smart, they are also located behind the front wheel, so I guess the placement must be open to a lot of interpretation!

And yes, that is the set of Corner Gas, in Roleau, Saskatchewan.

Dog River haha.

Also this is taken from the 2009 OPI booklet, just to show E-rated lights will pass. "Any light or lamp incorporated in or attached to a vehicle MUST be SAE or DOT approved. The only exception to this requirement is European lighting as defined in the Motor Vehicle Lighting Inspection Guide."

It's a stupid rule, There was a lot of time spent arguing it with transport Canada. This is also what the 2003 OPI says "Front and rear park lenses may serve as side markers, providing they can be seen from the side."

If you notice the smart cars headlights slightly wrap around the side(added picture marking position of side markers),  that would be considered a side marker where as in the rear you have an independent side marker from the park lenses, the amber light behind the wheel would be considered as a turn signal.

It also depends on the shop, some go by the book to a tee. While others don't really care, best bet is to go ask the person doing the inspection some questions, see what you can get away with.

Wow it's been a while since I was last here. The light pictures are invaluable and I think they should be on a sticky for anyone who is importing a car to Canada.  It was explained to me some time ago but it's definately crystal clear now.

No Cappo in my current life.  My latest son just turned 1, and we bought a new house. Not a bad thing it has a two car garage and the lot is 90 feet wide and 150 deep. It is begging for a shop to be built in the back corner that will house bikes and perhaps a Cappo.

Keep the thread alive, I know we can import '95's now which means no belts to change.  I see more and more Cappos advertised particularly on Kijiji.  There is still one somewhere waiting for me to part with cash and time.

I'm actually looking at buying one out of London, ON right now - assuming a) my insurance company is interested and b) if I fit in it (I'm 6'2").

I've been weighing the pros and cons - and would really like to find a decent service manual too...

I've seen a red cappo for sale in London on Kijiji but that was in August. I think it was being sold through bonsai rides in London. Dunno if it is still around though.

yes
that is the one i saw this summer at the london ontario car show.
craig pollock is the owner .... never did meet him.
seems he brought this one and i think a figaro back with him
from japan .... nearest i can tell.
visually it looked ok to me ...had a nice exhaust if i recall.
don't know much else but suspect it is still for sale.
Also one up in Quebec for sale .... can give you details if you wish.
Also one dark green one in toronto for sale but a bit rusty so i would
suggest not.
I also think there is a dark blue one out in the calgary area...
again i can chase it around if you are interested.
Lastly there is a lovely  one in BC but pricey (red one at suzuki dealer)

That's it .... obviously i like to track these things

Yep - that's the one - just _trying_ to get quotes for insurance and tracking down north american part sources... found some, but still need to get some more (especially for consumables - filters, brakes).

Getting it appraised for my insurance company (who finally decided they like my business and went to their minor underwriter for me - TD Meloch Monnex, btw).

I took it out for a spin - nice.  Reminds me of a (much) sportier version of my 1991 turbo sprint (which I dearly miss)...  most of the items on the car make it look about 3 years old...  still trying to figure out the "spoiler" on it - it's soft - is that original equipment do you figure???

Looked into classic insurance - but I'm using this as a daily driver, so no go.

I would have loved to have gone with less than $200/year though.

Spoiler can be seen here:  http://picasaweb.google.ca/leocraigpollock/SuzukiCappuccino?feat=directlink#5374218980977357090

Second gear didn't seem to be an issue for me - third seemed to be a little harder to get into though.

I'll post the deters of the appraisal after I get them.

The genuine Suzuki rear spoiler is soft so it could well be the optional fit spoiler.
