Chris Allanson bigging himself up... What he doesn't tell you is that I was driving a crippled car on old tyres because HE ran me off the road in the first race that day, bent my suspension and a wheel, and I didn't have the time to fix it properly before the second race.
That made me lose second place in the championship by just one point. His driving standard is generally regarded by everyone in the paddock as appalling. "Sorry mate, I was struggling to find my gears" he said afterwards. Quite how finding gears affects his steering so much that he drives into the side of me I don't know.
He's the main reason I'm not doing that championship any more.
He was also generally as much as four seconds a lap slower than me. Shame he won't publish the video from the first race isn't it?

The mini looked quick (even though with my limited understanding of the racging line it seems there were a few odd lines though bends) but as the saying goes, to finish first, first you've got to finish. Was it a case of brute force getting that Mini to where is perfom as it did? (And fail?)
Is it common to put together edited in car footage fro clubman races with commentry?
Capp looks beatifully sorted though Wayne, credit to you and your driving, what are the plans for it now?

ask him for the first video... love to see that one too...
I did ask his mate (also called Chris) for the video of the first race but got no reply... for some reason....
I'm still developing mine, just on with a paddle-shift system ATM so I can brake without taking one hand off the wheel as it can be a little nervous when very hard on the brakes. I've done some other bits and bobs since my last 'update' on here. I've got some aero updates to do before I have it out again, probably at Croft on 18th July.
Here's another one of his videos from last year. This was Croft, the first meeting he managed to finish last year. You can see my car two or three rows in front on the grid, squeezing between the red Caterham and the Leon Cup car at the start to take fourth place in front of the yellow V8 Chevrolet-Esprit. After a third of a lap you can't see me any more from the mini.
The mini has the same engine as mine, mounted in the back, so it has the same power and good traction off the line. It's also the best part of 100 kg lighter than my car. The suspension geometry gives it good traction. It is, after all, a grasstrack car really underneath. However, the rear grip it has in corners is where it really loses out on tarmac.
People don't usually put commentary on videos no, but I think he was so pleased with himself that he got past me while I was defending the TVR and that, for the first time all year he was in front of me, he felt he had to tell the world about it. I wonder if Ron Dennis knows about him....

Oh yes, forgot about that being first, that may provide a good opportunity to tweak my shift system if it needs it. I doubt I'll have the aero bits done for then, the car needs a good going over before I go to Donny anyway, stuff has a habit of vibrating loose!
I should update the build thread really I suppose.....

Its not friendly rivalry then Its going to be amusing to see how many times you come past me in one sesion at Donnington .
I get on with everyone really, some people are really great to race with because you know they'll not hit you (well, not on purpose) I've had some great scraps all race long with some of the Caterham boys and they tend to dice well and keep from hitting you. Chris is just a danger to be around, which is never fun, and fun is what it's supposed to be. No-one likes to be near him on track, even the boys in big cars complain about his driving.
We did a track day at Anglesey last Sat and I did quite a few laps in the standard (less speed limiter) Cappy. It's surprising how quick they are on a circuit because you hardly have to slow down for corners because the track is effectively so wide. Add to that the fact they are great on the brakes and very predictable on the limit and you can really peddle one along.
To put it into perspective, there were several Honda S2000 going round, some modified ones and some stock. Making a note where you are on the circuit as one passes you and then noting on the next lap how far down the road they are at the same point and they tend only to have gained fifty yards or so over a two and a half mile lap, which I don't think is bad at all really, giving the fact that we were also two-up with only 70-odd bhp.
Keeping up easily with a Clio 172 but not fast enough to pass it....

Some of the Honda boys were over from Ireland and were telling me that they were very impressed with your Cappuccino and with your driving!
They said that they bust a gut trying to pull away.
