How difficult is it to take a Cappuccino apart for a layman with hand tools? My Cap was in an accident and I'd like to salvage some parts as the engine, gearbox, wiring (loom), lights, front window, doors etc. How much time will it take? |

It took me and my friend 7 days to take an engine out and put another one in. So if you're alone and unexperienced (like us), I think you can expect 2 weeks of work. |

That many days ! How many bolts are there to unscrew!
Can I remove the engine with the car sitting on the ground? |

I've been dismantling my silver one for several years now The length of time will obviously depend on how much time you can dedicate to the job. I haven't dedicated much as you can tell!
I think the easiest way to remove the engine is to remove all the bolts and then lift the body up and wheel it out. Bob_g has dismantled a few in his time as has Kei so they should be able to give you a few pointers. |

2 & 1/2 days is my best time with car only on breeze blocks, using impact driver and heavy duty and light duty socket sets.
Start with the cockpit first, then boot, slide under to disconnect exhuast, then suspension and wheel arches and then slide under again to remove prop and undo gearbox mount (chock gearbox) engine bay small items and ancillaries. Then a good way as andy mentioned undo the subframes, front and rear and 2 of you can lift the chassis off leaving the subframes sitting on the floor.
It depends on how much you want to break it down as certain parts will need serious torque to undo nuts and bolts that require being still fixed onto the chassis to help with leaverage.
Hope i haven't left anything out. |

Yes - you'll need to go round it carefully with a long knife blade to cut the sealant.
Last engine swap I did (standard to standard) took two evenings - one to take it out, one to put the new one in.
When disassembling, ask yourself whether it's worth keeping the part for the amount of time it takes to remove - some things never break (have a look at the lists of parts still for sale to get an idea) |

Never spotted this thread before, dash can be a bit hard given that there's a lot of stuff underneath / inside it. Bolts wise there's only about 6 bolts i think that need to be undone. One behind the centre console one on each side visable when you open the doors and three along the top where it meets the windscreen, one in the middle and one at each corner, these are covered over by square bits of plastic that can be popped out with a small flat headed screwdriver. I'm unsure if the top corner ones are seperate from or under the tweeters but either way they can be popper out with a screwdriver.
I think though the the heater will need to be removed otherwise refitting and trying to slot the dash pipework could be a pain and a fair amout of wires will need to be unclipped, if memory serves the clips should be plastic coated metal ones that just need to be bent open. |
