Ive noticed some different treads here on how to improve the damaged moldings that crack from long time in sun, mainly it is to repaint it and preferably with Plastidip.
I went another route that is easy to do and gives like new moldings in very short time.
I have used car stripe film on rolls that I have fitted directly on the molding if the surface only is bleached by the sun, of case after care full cleaning. On moldings with more tear then sun bleach I have taken of the old surface treatment and added the film.
Below are some pictures before, taking away old surface and after I removed damaged surface. After careful cleaning have I added the film directly on the metal, in my case only using the Cap on nice days and always in garage other times the rust risk is minimal.
The high gloss film I have used has the same glossiness as the window A-pillar and the standard moldings on the roof, it looks like new and cost me some hours and less then 10 quid and no messing around with painting.
