A lot of the BOVs seem to have a high pitch whistle which I really can't stand but as midgetsprite quite rightly says - each to their own.

Well I've just been having a fiddle with my boost controller as shortening the pipes to it coupled with the new exhaust manifold has made the boost run 1 or 2 PSI higher than before and spotted a cork in the kitchen It fits very tightly with enough stuck out to pull it out should i ever want/need to. It really does sound good, more akin to when you hear the pneumatic brakes on buses and trucks release. A "chshhhhhhh" kind of sound.

Went for a 15 minute spin and can't see any oil residue around the ABV outlet so far. The kids around here seem to love the sound at least (they've probably been watching too many Fast and the Furious films and think it's a Toyota Skyline GR-T or something).

That's a good description of the sound, I've been trying to think of how to describe it!

And as for

ABV circled in red. The arrow points to the hose which needs to be removed from the ABV and plugged.

thanks andy, worked out that it was the pipe, sounds cool. only diffrence is that where it has the wider bore it lets all the air out in one go where as a after market dump valve releases it longer.
thats a cool strut, what make is it?

Depends what gear you are in and how much boost was being created as to how long it operates I've found.

My strut brace is the Suzuki Sport Type 2 one.

A plastic cork is ideal.

Hi,

I Have recently bought a lovely little cappo, and have been grinning since i bought it. However i don't think i have grinned as much after doing this little change. It sounds great! and it was free!!! Fantastic. I didn't really get dump vaules before, i thought they sounded naf, but know... Love it, great and free, what more could you ask for.

However i am far from an enginer, but does it effect power, performance and i prosume it isn't damaging????

Many thanks Steve

Steve, the only downside you might notice is a light misting of oil in your engine bay. The air that gets blown out of the valve has a little oil in it from the turbo bearing.

Otherwise it won't do any harm at all

And any dump to atmosphere valve would do exactly the same for your £200+

Let's be fair, Andy, Blitz and a few others do offer them with a tiny cone filter on which should catch some of the oil

Well there is that lol.  Presumably it then eventually dribbles over the manifold

Does that means these engines should use a small taste of oil?

All engines use some oil but have to say my Capp uses virtually none.  A standard Capp would divert this oil mist back into the engine.  With a dump to atmosphere valve (including this pipe disconnection method) the amount of oil loss should still be minimal.

is there any way to modify the standard BOV so it can have a fast option to be recirculating or to make whooosh noise?

I love it but the Mrs Whines and ruins the whooosh!  Would be great to have an on off switch, or like I mentioned, a method to quick change the BOV

You could do it with a couple of solenoids and a T-piece (in fact, a Y-piece would flow better).

Sorry, I'm a bit dumb, I know what a Y piece is, and I basically understand what a solenoid is... but thats where my "expertise" finishes!

Could you be a little more specific, think laymens terms and then simplyfy that   haha

Here's a little diagram to A; show you the idea, and B; prove that I work at a design agency.

You would want to get two types of solenoid ideally. One which is open by default, and one which is closed. Then when you flick the switch, current is passed to them both to switch which is opened and closed.

Another idea might be to use two stock BOVs, then switch the vacuum lines into them with a little solenoid?

Thnaks for the info, I have just tried it and love the noise it makes. CAn't belive something so simple creates such a big grin!!!

The Idea with the soleroid is great. It would be very cool if you could switch it on/off.

Thanks for the help.

I find it a much more satisfying sound to the likes of HKS etc which sound too high pitched in my opinion, although you can get inserts to change the sound.  For me this method is better by far as it is completely free and can be reveresed in a matter of seconds.

love it

I'll get together with my dad and see what I can come up with - anyone got any ideas for a switch off for the Mrs.?

On a serious not tho... if something goes wrong and BOTH solenoids are closed for some reason - what damage - if any would that cause?

Any idea's where I would get solenoids?  I had a quick google, but I'm not sure what im looking for!

If solenoids were too fiddly you could always adapt a choke cable from an old ar to do the job of the solenoid/s

demon-tweeks.co.uk do a dump valve that should do away with the need for any solenoid jiggery pokery. Its called a dual port dump valve and is made by turbosmart. it recirculates(quietly) under normal acceleration and vents to atmosphere(loud) under hard acceleration. mind you its £229.13.

dear all~it seems my cappo is really having big problem.....
I had tried to do this free BOV and I failed.

It did not sing the song even the accel. pedal was on the floor for awhile before I lift my right leg.
Is my turbo not able to produce enough boost? I do not have a boost guage.
Or somewhere between the throttle and the BOV is leaking boost?
Or worst my turbo is already blown?

Moreover, will this be the reason for my poor fuel efficiency?

I think you need to check how much boost you have with a gauge.

See if the waste gate is stuck open as well.
