Have you fitted a rear spoiler/wing, boot rack or are just sick and tired of the noisy springs and the boot springs wont hold the boot lid open? I have a large rear spoiler/wing and fitted 2 boot struts which work a treat. I had to fit two with one on each side due to the weight of the boot lid but a standard boot lid may only need one. The struts are from the local hardware store and are used by cabinet makers for cupboards that have opening shelves/desks/ bars etc. I have thrown the packaging out but they measure a toral of 265mm long from tip to tip and when pushed down on some bathroom scales they take about 7.5Kg of force to get them depressed. They were quite cheap at about $ 10.00 AUD. No more problems or queaky spings now. Heres how to fit a strut or struts to get rid of the springs. |

The top bracket which comes with the struts can be mounted with 2 No. 8 or 1/8 screws with the centre line of it in line with the inner edge of the inner part of the boot hinge. The bottom of the bracket rests on top of the boot hinge. |

The bottom mount needs a bracket made from 30x20mm aluminium angle 80mm long. It bolts to the rear boot hinge bolt with the standard ball mount that comes with the struts riveted to one end of the 30mm side and a 6mm hole drilled in the bracket on the 20mm side 35mm apart to the centrelines. Be carefull with this I had to muck around to get it right. If you need two struts dont forget they will be opposite handed brackets for the right and left side. Round off the corners of the aluminium bracket for safety reasons. |

How does it all fit? Mine works great and although it is difficult (or impossible) to get a pic of the boot lid closed from the inside they nearly line up with the original boot hinge bracket when the boot is near closed. I have an electric remote boot opener fitted and when acrtivated the boot pops but doesent open, with little effort the lid opens and when closing I push the lid to about half way closed and it shuts by itself. |

Thanks for the R & D Grant, was about to nut this out myself hahaha
I wonder if you could incorporate the top bracket into the hinge, like it is bolted to the lower, and offer it as a complete 2 step bolt on kit???
Brilliant idea though. |
