Hello all,
Hopefully this thread will save some time and people asking the same questions every day. (Sticky Admins?)
I'm more than happy to give oil recommendations and advice here which will hopefully build up to a useful OIL FAQ in time.
We sell the following brands: Silkolene, Motul, Fuchs, Castrol, Mobil1, Amsoil and coming soon Redline (totalling over 300 different oils) and deliver overnight throughout UK Mainland.
My web is here: http://www.opieoils.co.uk where you will find technical data on most the oils we sell.
We are more than happy to help in giving advice as we subscibe to proprietory databases that give us oil data on all cars back as far as the mid 80's.
We can give you the most suitable grade for any part of your car and can recommend products from our ranges. We even keep data and chemical analysis on some oils that we don't sell!
You can always PM or Email me if you wish to discuss a matter off the forum.
If you have modded your car, affecting BHP and temps or are using it for competition/track days then other factors need to be taken into account and I will have to deal with these enquiries individually.
I will however need the Make, Model, Year, Engine Size, Modifications (stock BHP vs Modded BHP) and stlye of driving (road/track) etc and I can more accurately recommend the correct viscosity for you.
Please also bear in mind that modding your car or using it in "anger" means the need for a more shear stable oil that will "stay in grade" rather than shear down with use so I would always in these situations recommend the use of a proper ester/pao synthetic oil, not a petroleum oil as is commonly sold and labelled as a synthetic oil.
Please feel free to ask.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Guy OpieOils

Would be interested in some advice for my Alto Works RS/X (CR22S). It uses a twin-cam F6A engine and I've got the stock turbo on it. In fact, everything pretty much is stock, and with no huge performance mods planned. I have a little fun with it every now and then but am not driving at full boost all the time.
What kind of oil weight should I be looking at getting? |

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Gulf Formula G, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives. |

Hi
Go for a 5w-40 in the engine
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Gulf Formula G, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives.
You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox and diff and here are the ones we have.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90.aspx
If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Motul Gear 300, Silkolene Silktran Syn 5 and Millers TRX. The Castrol Syntrax, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. They are all fine in the diff and gearbox |

I have a query here
as the standard spec is a 10W30 why go for the 5W40? the engine does have an oil cooler and I've have thought that due to its propensity for high revs the thinner standard grade would be preferable? |

According to our data, the standard choice is a 10w-40, so a 5w-40 is just an upgrade over that. In the UK 10w30s are usually basic oils, aimed at tractors and industrial equipment.

Really Tim this isn't the same advice you are giving out on the rx8 owners club about 10w-30 oil.
Fuchs make a great semi synthetic 10-30 which you guys rave about. |

I'm using the Fuchs Pro S 5w-30 in my Cappuccino. Mainly I do less than 4 or 5 mile journeys to work with a few weekend blasts of around 30-40 miles, Light mods.
So is this the right oil for my use or should I go for the 40?
(was considering using it in the summer anyway) |

10w-40 is what James at Fairfax recommends for his Stage 2 engines |

I use 5w-30 as this is the 'upgrade' for the standard 10w-30 |

Hi
They don't. The one we recommend for the RX-8s is the XTR 5w-30 and would be okay to use in your car.

Hello.
Looking at different oils and generally swear by millers.
What millers oils can you reccomend?
Will be running around 120bhp (with plans for up to 160bhp) Mods: Bigger intercooler, aftermarket ram air filter, de-cat straight through exhaust, re-map, ht04 bigger turbo, bigger injectors.
Will be in a race car doing a test day (100 mins track time) friday test day (80mins track time tops) and 1 qualifying (15 mins) and 2 races (25mins each or one 75 mins) on an oil change (better to be safe than sorry) So doesn't need to be super duper oil lasting 12k miles but needs to be very good at looking after the engine at high revs and need a good transmission oil that looks after the engine on harsh down changes and racing starts.
Thanks
Connor
(may know me from mr2 championship after our very lengthy discussion on why i changed the oil every meeting at silverstone birkett 6hr 2011 when i picked up a set of ebc yellow off bob at ebc) |

Need some advice regarding good lubes (for the car that is)
95 M reg 59k miles Er11a engine
Im looking to change *all* liquids (besides fuel and screen wiper fluid) and would like to know what I should be going for, I do around 3-5k per year and some short fast blasts every now and then.
The car is totally stock besides from a full SS exhurst with cat (I believe) and a cheappo Halford pod filler. It also has big Red break callipers and I'm told this increases HP by 5%
Would appreciate some advice and if possible a web link to a ready to buy basket.
Thanks!
