As I dare say there are quite a few members with an iPhone (me included as of last weekend ) I thought we should have a 'What apps would you recommend?' thread. Having looked through some of the reviews in the App Store, for the limited number I've actually downloaded so far, they aren't exactly what I'd call reliable. So if you have an app you would recommend to others (or ones you really wish you had never bothered with) post up the details here to let others know.
I'll update the list in this post as the recommendations come in. (Please read up about any of the apps mentioned below, and even contact the member recommending it, before purchase if you are not completely sure.)
Free Apps
'Your Orange' - only of any use for those with Orange! Lets you view your account including data and voice usage etc.
'NatWest' - only of any use for NatWest customers. Lets you view balances and mini-statements etc.
'Sky Sports Live Football Score Centre' - great little app to follow the scores as they happen and also view other info.
'BatteryMaster Free' - seems to be quite reliable so far giving a better visual indication of remaining battery power. Also gives an estimate of how much longer you could use the phone for different reasons - Talk, Internet, Audio, Video and on standby.
'iPint' - totally pointless but fun all the same
'iHandy Level' - a spirit level in a phone... Not sure how reliable it is though as I haven't really tested it but it looks cool lol.
Paid for Apps
'Dynolicious' - £7.49 - Dynolicious uses the hardware built-in to your iPhone to measure the performance characteristics of your vehicle. Feature Highlights 0-60 Acceleration, 1/4 Mile Trap Speed and Time, Estimated Horsepower, G-forces in 360°.
'MobileNavigator' - From £32.99 - SatNav by Navigon. Various maps available.
'Weather Pro' - £2.39 - Much more detailed forecast info than the standard app.
'ialign' - £1.79 - ialign is a digital camber and caster gauge which allows users to measure camber and caster angles relatively quickly and easily.
'Delivery Status touch' - £1.79 - Delivery Status touch will let you track packages from UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, TNT, and many more.
'The Converter' - £0.59 - The Converter comes with more than 1500 units across 65 categories (all translated in 16 languages).
'Shazam' - £2.99 (limited free version available) identify any song being played.
Apps I really wish I hadn't bothered with!

Dynolicious is a must have paid app for cappo owners. It records 0-60mph times and measures performance. |

It might be worth looking into jailbreaking your iphone. That way you can install all of the apps in the appstore for free. ..And then offcourse pay for them if you like it.. + you can install all kinds of handy stuff.
* Like 5(or 6 or 7)-icon dock, where you can have 5 icons on your dock instead of 4.
* Get rid of that pesky call forwarding notice everytime you make a call.
* Install a little tool to count the characters of the text youre typing.
* Sbsettings - to toggle phone, wifi, edge, 3g, bt from any menu or app on the iphone without having to go into settings.
* Installous - to get all those free downloadable apps
* usb drive - to use the iphone as a usb stick on your computer
* 3g unrestrictor - to watch youtube without the need of a wifi or 3g connection
* ringtones - to make your own ringtones on the iphone from any song thats on it. Lets you select which part of the song to use.
And much much more!
As for musthave apps: (Officially you pay for these)
Dynolicious - A pretty accurate dyno app. Also the best of the ones I tried. You have a rsm right? Might be fun to see how the two compare.
Navigon - Navigation. I tried them all, like navigon the best.
Apps I frequently use: (Don't know if these are paid apps)
Deliveries - Track shipments, packages coming your way.
Converter - Convert just about anything. I.e. length, speed, temp, clothing, force, energy, sound, mass and much much more.
Currency - Converts currency.
WeatherPro - More accurate and more info than standard weather app |

Wait no theyre not. Those are just the names on the springboard.
Here are the real names:
Deliveries - Delivery status touch
Converter - The converter
Currency - Can't find that one anymore.. But there are a lot to choose from now, a lot of them free
WeatherPro - Weather Pro
In addition to that I also like:
Shazam - Lets you record a song on the radio and it tells you which artist + song it is.
Sleep cycle - I just started using it. But it analyzes your sleep patterns and wakes you up when youre the most awake. In the lightest phase of sleeping. You set a time and it wakes you up somewhere in the 30 minutes that ends at the alarm time you set. Because even if it means you'll wake up 20 or 30 mins before your set alarm, you'll be less tired and have more energy. |

A few question that might help others know how useful a couple of these apps will be in their country...
Delivery status touch
Which delivery companies can you choose from? Are they all covered or only select ones?
The Converter
Does it do UK measurements as well as US ones. A lot of converters seem to be more tailored to US measurements it seems.
Sorry to ask all these questions but if the list is going to be of use we need to give as much detail as possible I think |

Delivery status touch: Adobe (US and Canada) Amazon.com Amazon.co.uk Amazon.a very long list of all amazon.countries Apple Aramex Canada post City link DHL Globalmail, Germany Fedex GLS Google checkout Hermes ligistik gruppe Hongkong post Japanpost, every japanpost service Nintendo Parcelforce Poste Italiane Posten Norway Posten Sweden Purolator Royal mail Sagawa express Swiss post TNT TNT Netherlands UPS USPS Yamato transport
And if theres something not there you can email the developer and he'll add it.
The Converter: Length and distance: km, m, dm, cm, mm, nm, A, lea, ft, in, mil, mi, yd, rd, fur, ch, rd, lnk, hand, ln, ri, kairi, cho, jyo, ken, shyaku, sun, mon, li, yin, zhang, bu, chi, cun, fen, hao, si, hu, yote, sen, wah, sawk, keub, nieu, kabiet, sea league, nmi US, nmi UK, nmi int...And thats not even half of the list
Speed: km/h, km/s, m/s, m/min, mph, mi/s, ft/min, ft/s, s/mi, s/100yd, kn, mach, speed of light, bft And again, a lot more.
I think its safe to say the converter can convert any measurement from all over the world.

I don't actually have an iPhone, but a friend of mine does, and she has a sky+ app on it, which allows here to browse the TV listings, then click a button and it sets her Sky+ at home to record the program selected.
I don't know if Sky charge for this service or the app, but she raves about it. |

Yes I've seen that one. I dare say it's very useful if you have Sky+ (which I don't ) |

Does the iphone use the apps as the ipod touch?
If so my daughter would like a WiFi app that actually remembers the #### connection settings because every time she comes around here and everytime she switches it back on I have to dig out my very long mixed up WPA2 password and it's becoming a very big #### bore. (obvious her not-so-bright mother probably has an unsecured connection and will be blissfully unaware of her obligations under the DPA's & CMA, etc) |

They do use the same apps as far as I know and my WiFi remembers both home and work networks and happily switches between the two... Is the OS up to date? |

No idea about OS. (not my ipod)
It could be that it will only remember one, if the second one is an open network? |

If it's the same as the iPhone it will update when it is connected to iTunes.
Not sure but both of mine are secured connections and I'm pretty sure I can add more. |

The touch is exactly the same as the iphone when it comes to wifi. It should remember the password. I have more than 6 secured networks that the iphone remembers so that shouldnt be a problem.
Try this: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
If that doesn't work try updating through itunes if she hasnt already. |

I suppose a club cappo app would be out of the question? Basically like the facebook app for quick log ins and access to private messages etc? Probably not enough members to make it viable? |

yep, would be cross platform with andriod/ios/web ect
Ive been messing about where you 'click' on the part and it spits it outlines it and highlights the part number, but my algorithms are kinda crappy and i really dont want to do it manually lol.
Likelyhood of this happening in next 12 months... 0.01% |
