Hey. I'm going to be needing a new Laptop very soon and was wondering I there is anyone on here that can point me in the right direction. I don't play games on it just a bit of photoshop Internet and programming. Any help with links etc would be great thanks.
My Dell XPS 15 is still going strong and its taken a lot of abuse, yesterday i had it on the van bonnet watching Phantom menace while working on the car, went and slammed the back door to hear it crash onto the concrete without a scratch.
Its fully updated and bloated with all the windows updates and is only fractionally slower than when i got it and runs programs like ableton live and bryce quite easily. The sound is still the best i've ever encountered on a laptop.
As long as you get something with an I5 or I7 chip and lots of memory you wont regret it and always go for the plastic fronted screens and not glass to ensure knocks and drops wont cause screen failiure. If your lucky enough to afford a solid state drive then do so but 500gb SSD''s are still rather costly, the perormance gain though well outweighs the cost.

Ive recently retired my laptop from main duties and bought a Nexus 7 tablet for surfing etc. Photoshop and programming it wont do though
The other half has just stuck an SSD in his tired Dell 1525 to eek a bit more life out of it and it defo boots up quicker now.
Do you want a laptop or an ultrabook though? There ae quite a few fancy ultrabooks about now, Dell XPS13, Samsung Series 5 is nice although not a smart looking as a Series 9, Asus Zenbooks, HP Envy 14 Spectre and Acer S7. Most of those do have a prices to match though. It may be worth doing what Kei did last year and wait until the January sales start if your in no rush.
Whats your budget? Anything you require like USB 3.0, SSD, HDMI connectivity, screen size, battery life?

Honestly it all depends on how much you want to spend on a laptop. What I can suggest though is to not get a laptop with an integrated video card, at least a low end nvidia or amd (ati) one would be much better. It will help since you will be using photoshop. And Also something with an i series (i3, i5, i7) Intel CPU would be best considered.
