Does anyone know how long the block is on the H27A engine from the vitara, I seem to have a lot of space in the engine bay and was just thinking about alternatives...
As the engine is transverse in the AZ-1 the length of the block is crucial although there is plenty of room elsewhere, and the idea of a 2.7l V6 AZ-1 sounds quite appealing

That's probabley the engine it's based on, it's the only V6 Suzuki have produced in the las 10 years. It's actually used by a lot of companies, origininally designed by Crysler and Holden but there a derivatives by Mazda, Ford, Alpha, Chevvy... and even in a light aircraft!.
Got the measurements after a bit of googling today - 615mm from pully to transmission face, far too long (although it does awesome thing to an MX-5), so it's back to plan B - leave the AZ-1 as is and an MR2 V6 as a daily

I was under the impression it was designed jointly by Suzuki and Mazda in the early 90's.  If it originally came from Chrysler and Holden, they'd probably have made it out of cast iron and OHV.  If you can cite links to correct my "knowledge", I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thats the V6 i was intrested in a few months ago, i've seen somewhere that a GM engine followed on from it thats made in the us and oz.

I liked the idea though of finding one of the V6's that mazda done as they were toying with lower cc.  If there was say an all ally 1.6 V6, i'd recon that would be a perfect candidate, but not sure if one was ever developed.

Sorry matt, your right  I was getting it mixed up with the HFV6 that suzuki are using in the XL7.

I'll see if I can get a bit more info on that mazda 1.8 - as it was used in the AZ-3 it was transverse FWD so it could be a suitable candidate for the AZ-1 if the engine + transmission are narrow enough.
