Well Cadwell Park was fun - not!!!

Practise went well on the Saturday with some excellent lap times but towards the end of the final session the exhaust downpipe developed a split... So a real drop off in top end performance.  We welded it up but a couple of laps into qaulifying it went again and he ended up seventh..

We welded it again for Race 1 but then on the green flag lap the driver's side inboard CV joint on the driveshaft went... So he ended up sitting it out which probably turned out to be a good thing because there was a major coming together on the first corner after the start with two cars having to be towed away and three more looking worse for wear..

We fixed the drive shaft for Race 2 and had another go at welding the downpipe..  It went again on lap 3 but he still ended up third...  Just not enough power to make an attempt for second or the lead.

Still, he took it all in his stride and didn't throw his toys out of the pram. It was me doing the spitting feathers bit because we'd ordered a new downpipe and it hadn't arrived in time..  >

The weather was good though

Yeah I was reading Andrew's website earlier - terrible luck!  Could have been far worse though and he still has the number one spot in sight!

Yes this was only the second meeting.. There's plenty of time to pull it back.

He thinks clipping the kerb broke his driveshaft joint but that's pretty unlikely. In fact I had a good look at it once we'd changed it and there were obvious signs of wear.

Yay.......... Little sod was absolutely on form at Knockhill today and won both his races....

The first was from second on the grid and the second from pole...  Really first class racing, lots of overtaking and with the added bonus of no damage to pay for

The videos should be good so I'll let you know when they're up..

The videos are up on his website now..  http://www.andrew-winchester.com

But here's a cool shot one of the photographers gave me.... That's him in front... He clipped that tyre barrier later on and a bit of the bumper smashed his headlight..

The sort of damage I worry about is accompanied by a huge invoice..  A headlight and a bit of bumper is only about £20 worth...

Even though I knew they didn't I couldn't help but flinch when Scott Fraser locked his brakes, waiting for the crunch!  Really is breathtakingly close racing.  One question.  What was the hand gesture for at the end?

Yes good aren't they..  I just wish there was a rear facing camera as well and I'm looking into that. The one we have is standard Panasonic hand held cam..

I asked him about that gesture as well cos I was a bit concerned he was giving Scott the finger.. He told me - quite indignantly I should add - that he was holding his finger up to the camera to show he was first..  I believe him cos that's just not the sort of thing I would expect him to do..  Actually Andrew and Scott are pretty good friends and the reason they race so closely if they're up front together is that they've grown to trust each other not to do anything stupid..  Scott is a nice lad. He's a bit older than Andrew at 21 or so and actually works at Knockhill teaching skid control...  As you can see from the second race he needed that going sideways round Clarkes.. !!

Here's another photo I was sent tonight... that's really close !!!

You can see the trust that's for sure.  And yes some impressive drifting going on!  The hand gesture I meant was actually the one at the end of the first race. It was a hand raise. Wasn't sure if it was a 'is that the race over?' kind of movement or something else.

I think he was just waving at the Marshal's at the end of the pit lane....  either that or relief at it all being over...

That was a very, very, very close finish.....  0.007 sec !  He wasn't sure whether he'd won or not until he came into parc ferme..

Ah it was a 'was it me or was it you?' kind of getsure.  I must admit I watched the second gesture a few times to make sure it wasn't the bird he was giving.

Nah..  They're all good buddies as can be seen from this one of Andrew and Scott mucking about when I was trying to get a serious shot of Andrew with his first race winners cup...  He's a really nice lad and you should see his girlfriend     The guy in the background is Peter Cruickshank who came 3rd in car 3 in the second race... He's been at it since the mid nineties..  He's a filthy rich property lawyer from Glasgow...

Just watched the vids and we really enjoyed them Andrew is very patient waiting to tee up that final corner. As to the hand gesture - a simple 'I'm No 1 today' is how we read it. Great racing though. You must be really proud.

Yep....  I am very proud of him...  Mind you I'm proud of the other two as well...

One is in Seattle working for Boeing... He's a composite structures designer... The other is an architect & works in Plymouth...

They are both hugely supportive of Andrew.. In fact I was quite touched last night cos the one in the USA sent Andrew some cash to buy a set of tyres.. Ain't that nice

Yay...... One win, one second, one fastest lap at Knockhill today in the pouring rain...

Absolutely pi**ing it down....  some carnage but fortunately not involving our car... One got T-boned so hard it bent his back axle.....

Photos and vids as soon as we've dried out !

We thinks he's one point behind in the XR2 Championship but five points ahead in the overall Champion of Champions thing...  He missed pole by a tenth which would have given him an extra point..

Still no worries...... plenty of races to go.....

Vids are up on his site...  Quality is a bit off compared to previous ones.. Not sure whether it's just the weather or we need a new camera.. Been trying to find a 2nd hand Sony mini cam like the pros use... It's a remote head with a separate recorder..
