No not all of them have only the really basic ones I believe. Never understood why they fitted them to some though. |

We had that too! There were four of us in this wagon and someone said 'look! there's someone's wheel going past!' and then we realised it was ours as the car started rocking around! |

One car I've always wanted is a Fiat 500... Always thought they looked fun.. The Abarth version is apparently quite nippy... 0-60 in a whole 10 seconds..
2CVs - My brother had the upmarket version called the Dyane... Friend of mine and I really really annoyed him once by taking the engine out and hiding it in the garage.. It only took about 20 minutes ..... Boy was he pi**ed The look on his face was really worth it though... |

I had a couple of those Dick - including one of the really old design cinquacento. They were good fun. Not that fast but great to drive and piss easy to park.

There's a lot in favour of 2CV's. They were designed so that a 1950's French farmer could strip them down and repair them easily so I've seen go-kart engines that were more complicated than a 2CVs. Very versatile cars. Take out the back seat and drop the roof and you can get a wardrobe in and out easily - I've done it.

They really were that easy to work on. Every, and I mean every, panel is just bolted on.
And it had a starting handle! And boy did it kick if you weren't careful!
I love the gear change in these things, it was remarkably slick and quick, in and out the dash on a long stick, lol. Faster than a Beetle to nearly 50 as well , but then topped out about 60/65mph. 70 was pushing it.
The best thing about a DeuxCheveux was new passengers.
New passengers that had never been around a corner in a 2CV before. And even less so with a raving nutter at the wheel
It's great. The wheels stay firmly on the ground, but the car itself sort of leans .... and leans .... and leans ...... and they scream to pull over to change their pants, lol!
I've actually driven one of these along a 45' wet mud/grass embankment with a full compliment of guinneapigs (*sorry Students*) for a full 30 yds and managed to get up and out the other side. It was one of those places that were a local 'dare' and I only knew on two other cars that made it, ever, and one of those was a Panda 4x4. The other one did it in the middle of a dry summer. It you lost grip and slid down this very small but steep slope you scaped along the wall of a building and it could get very messy.
Ever done 93mph in a 2CV? It's scary. I did with 5 passengers (one was in the boot, lol). Sort of cheated as it was down a very long steep hill on the way back up t'North from Manchester. Still cost me a molten piston, though .

Ice, mud, 4" snow, fords, even motorways. Those were the days .
Often came out of college to find the car moved, turned around, or in various satatews of disarray.
Never did figure out why they bothered with the locks - they were just that rediculously pathetic it was unreal.

Well I can provide a list but not pics as I never actually saw the point in taking pics of my earlier cars.
'88 E reg Ford Fiesta 1.1 in Blue (sold after an incident involving a blow out and a lamp post)
replaced by
'85 B reg Ford Fiesta 1.1 in Blue (sold after an incident with a lump of tarmac masquerading as a speed hump in a Tesco car park ripped the chassis leg open)
replaced by
'94 M reg Ford Escort 1.3 in Blue (written off after being hit by a police car
replaced by
'98 S reg Ford Escort 1.6 in Red (still own)
joined by
'90 G reg BMW 518i in White (sold to a friend with full BMWSH)
replaced by
'97 P reg BMW 523i SE in Blue (still own)
joined by
'95 M reg Cappuccino in red.
|
|
So you've only ever had one good car then Andy?
My list...
Vauxhall Chevette Blue - Shoved it - last seen in the hands of another Shove-It owner breaking for spares.
Vauxhall Cavalier Green - MkII I think - stolen, recovered (by the insurance rep) but Mrs Bear never felt the same about it afterwards so quickly went to auction.
Vauxhall Carlton Mk I Brown - Inherited from my Grandfather and retained as long as I possibly could for sentimental reasons.
Renault 25 White - Looked like a poor man's wedding car and had an annoying voice telling you any time someone wasn't right... after a nice hi-de-hi type bing-bong. Got some good air-time out of it on a back road in Norfolk though Sold to a nice elderly couple who also owned a Renault 4.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis Green - of course - Current bus with lots of grunt, lots of space, and a whole herd of cows on the interior - but expensive parts.
You have to remember to ditch the speed before hitting the corner and sadly it's not quite big enough to park the Cappo in
Suzuki Cappuccino Well not quite really as all the others have been mine and our Cappo is actually Mrs Bear's Cappo - still if and when we move I might be able to get one of my own too.
Other fun things I've driven.... MkI Ford Granada (well it was fun as that's what I did a lot of my early learning in) and a Dolomite Sprint. |

I've never had a problem with fuel economy - even with a 4L engine it doesn't get through that much petrol each year...
But then again that might have something to do with me only doing 4,000 miles a year in it |

Or for Bear makers who need to carry stock, and a stand, to fairs - with some of our bears almost big enough to not need a child seat there isn't really any chance of doing those runs in the Cappo.

First Car: Fiat Seicento
Small cars just make more sense from a performance aspect! The handling was awesome and the engine loved to rev, glove box is not a standard feature on this car and room for 1 Driver and 11 human adult Passengers!
Second Car: suzuki ignis, nippy in a straight line but drove like it was on stilts made of jelly. suprisingly good off road. well better than the seicento! Ignis had ingenious in dash cupholder solutions that weren't promoted as the cars main selling point. The cupholder's blew me away Y'know before I gave it to my mother...
I'd love to say the best car I ever driven was my seicento, or even the cappuccino, but no. This is:
Had the pleasure of driving the Formula Jaguar at a Palmer Sport Race day. The acceleration and grip were completely surreal. Note: how red my face is from shouting "I AM A DRIVING GOD" all the way around the track! |

My first sadly got written off by a holiday maker turning into a junction infront of me at the last minute!! i did so much work to it and i know its silly cos its just a fiesta but it was my first car and i had my ford alloys on it and my sub and new lower arms and new tyres and the day it was written off i was looking at a new engine, sadly it wasnt meant to be and when i eventually get my scanner working ill put up the insurance pictures, do miss it still but i got £1000 back from the other guys insurance so good times
My get me by car, a peugeot 205 1.1 style, absolutly lovely car, went straight through an mot, not a problem with it (although when i thrashed it and changed gear it make a funny twanging noise lol) wish i would of kept it because of recent problems it would of stayed a good reliable (and much needed get me by car)
I then sold that, bought the cappo had a load of fun then the problems started, hunting, no choke, missfiring, overheating ect, so it went down the garage and was diagnosed with head gasket trauma so it went into storage and i bought another mk3 fiesta for £50 scrapped that and bought the vitara, i dont have any pics of the vitara cos its in my bad books at the moment with the oil pump going and the garage messing me around about a curtosy car.. ill be sure to put some up after its sold... Enjoy! x |

I'd forgotten about this thread - been meaning to post this in here for a while. My first "interesting" car after a mini and a couple of Triumph Herald's. This quote just about sums it up.
