Hi mate,

Both Corrado & Rallye have supercharged 1.8l engines & have been tuned to around 240 bhp & 200lbs torque. Its funny coz even though its the same engine they sound completely different & deliver differently. The Corrado is FWD, Rallye 4WD - Corrado more of a GT (I wish!) & Rallye more boy racer...

I spent around 4 years building the Corrado - its still not finished - need to roll & pull the arches and fit fat rims. The Golf I bought as is from a friend of mine - it was the SNStuning demo car.

Cheers

Hamza

I broke all the rules on car buying when I bought the Bimmer.
I viewed it in the dark, and figured I could fix whatever was wrong with it as it was going to be a project car

Turns out it is not an IL - hahaha - oops

it has 740il on the back, and I swear it had IL on the paperwork, when I looked at other IL's floating around they looked the same length - turns out that most shorties are badged IL here - so when I compared I was comparing tosh with tosh. - Only realised when I parked next to a 750IL!! Live & learn!!

Sorted the engine probs, but put it up for sale now

am widening the rear track 3" - will buy wider wheels - rotifom ones I think, the white taped line was where the new box arch upper line was going to go , but am lowering that and also keeping it horizontal, rather then sweeping upwards towards the rear

It's already looking awesome, can't wait to see the final result
So it's a Golf V R32 with a Golf 2 bodywork ?

Thanks - assuming it isn't a write off, its turning out to be an R32 dressed as a golf. The intention was to have a rallye with an R32 drivetrain

One day I'll learn to stop doing this, anyway I decided not to sell the BMW and fix it. That was 3 months ago

so it started like this

I bought loads of chassis parts, new front suspension, control arms etc etc etc
then resolved a rough idle with new intake gaskets and oxygen sensors
then took it to Dammam - a 4 hour drive away to test it - yes, across the desert

of course I picked the worst day in sandstorm history and ultimately completed a 7-8 hour round trip in severe weather. the sand cut through the material on the front grill, toasted my headlights, fog lights and in a nutshell killed it from a nice and shiny point of view....

I also some how picked up a cracked windscreen

Now as I had planned to "fix" it, I had bought a few goodies - and am very glad that the stuff had not been fitted before the trip

Umnitza headlights

not happy with what turned up as the wiring was very exposed

and a new grill, fog lights new badges, new brake lights, floor mats and a fake Alpina lip

won't bore you with the bits, as you'll see them on the car

Then it went in for re-spray 1st July, I wanted everything black, no chrome bits, and an extra layer of lacquer

Of course the concept of quality is lacking in most places here, and the paint shop was no exception

Will post up photos of the mess they've made once I have the car back - they fitted the front grill incorrectly - lower on one side then the other, have left trails of lacquer, obviously did not prepare the surfaces well before painting and there's overspray on the rubber. the new windscreen was also fitted poorly.

In the meantime and for no apparent reason the A/C control unit failed and the motor in the driver seat failed on one side

I've pointed out the faults at least twice and sent it back twice, took a look earlier today and little has been resolved - so I suspect I will not pay them.

will post up photos shortly - tell me what you think - am I being too fussy??

Cheers
H

Ouch, that looks like a serious sandstorm! I do love the E38s though, it'll look great once you get it all sorted

Yep, that's one hell of a sandblasting!

If you're not happy with the repairs you have every right to be unhappy so don't settle for anything except the results you wanted.

And don't hold back on the pics

OK - GOLF Project has died, may they both (R32 & Rallye) RIP....

Change of ownership at the garage they were at, means I am left with a sort of assembledish death trap!

No idea how to recover this at all.....will receive the remains back soon.

Oh yes, and BMW is back to rough idle and leaks everywhere - GRRRRREAT!

A dull accountant

Cars are my only vice...actually your looking at about 12 years worth of play above, only the cappo was seriously expensive, and the golfs are a write off...but always stayed away from car loans coz the interest is a killer, especially as cars depreciate in value hence the cost of finance doubles the real loss.

The way I look at it is this... I could spend 20k on a new car, and lose 10k on depreciation, lose 5 k on car loan interest, or spend 5k on a base car and then 15k on what ever I want in terms of tuning etc. only a major project would cost thousands anyway, and those are few and far between, although having said that I feel a twin engined Corrado might cheer me up given the golfs death...

Cheers

Golfs are dead and being disposed of.

Have relocated to Dubai so got an SUV for the family and an Acura NSX - 2003 for me

Previous owner stuck chrome 19" alloys on it - ride quality is poor, tyres are old, and a fe niggles but otherwise OK.

Plan to wide body this one, but only the back end
