The original plan was to poach the engine and drop it in the back of the AZ-1 but it drives too well for that so I might just have to use it as a daily for the winter and see how things go...

... and another pic. It's just a shame they didn't make this FR or it would be so much fun
Not got the room for 3 cars so if anyone fancies a solid but cosmetically challenged Beat have a look at my post on KKITP

Nice

I quite fancied one of those years ago.  Not sure why I never bought one...

Swap your AZ-1 F6A for a tiny V6 ? You're a crazy man Don

Do you have an idea of the kind of work it would involve to get it to fit in ?
I mean just a few mods or major structural modifications ?

The block itself is only about 3 cm longer than the F6A, not a problem - it should just about fit! It would mean losing a bit (250mm) from the storsge space behind the drivers seat to allow space for the front bank of cylenders, but there's always the passenger footwell to fit the shopping in.
Heightwise it will just about fit although, if I do get it in there, the 200bhp KZ engine (626 japan JDM), which is the obvious upgrage, is about 2cm too tall which would mean chopping chunks out of the parcel shelf

Biggest prob I'm trying to figure out is a clutch/flywheel combination that will match the engine and the AZ-1 gearbox.

Whatever happens it's a daily for the winter with room to get the body panels from the AZ-1 to the paint shop

Well as with all good plans this one has gone woefully astray. You buy something then, 2 weeks later, something better comes along - a cheap, tatty, 4Wd (with turbos) thats just perfect for the winter, so it just had to be bought!
Anyone fancy a cheap MX3 V6? it's too good to break!

Don, you're not thinking of stuffing the drivetrain from the GTO into the AZ-1 now are you?

LoL!  , There is absolutely no way it would fit, there's not even room in the AZ-1 footwell for the clutch pedal. No it's just for fun, I've always fancied one.
Working on the engine does make working on an AZ-1 or cappo seem easy though, there is just no space to do anything!

I take it you've tried to change the rear spark plugs then?

A mate of mine had one back in the early 2000s. I must admit it was a really impressive car. Besides being super quick, one thing I remember most about it was how solid and mature it felt.

Perfect winter wheels no doubt!

Lol , waiting on a new set of HT leads before I do the plugs, seems sensible to do them at the same time given the amount of work involved.
I was just trying to bleed and adjust the clutch - first remove the battery, the air filter, the feed pipe to the inlet...

Must admit it does feel quite 'grown up' though, well until you boot it, then it scares me

I'm sorta glad I got the A8 instead of the GTO although the audi's engine bay is equally tight, one thing I cant get my head around is the GTO's engine layout, I've always thought that engines with drive to the rear should have the engine going front to back but the mitsi doesn't go by that rule.  Hows the gearbox / transmission layout work on it?

It's sort of like a normal FWD box with an inbuilt diff but with a transfer box bolted underneath to drive a normal propshaft. the transfer box does all the clever LSD and 45/55 (front/rear) power ratio stuff with a viscous coupling (voodoo magic!!!) but it all seems to work, I just hope it doesnt break!
Biggest surprise yet is that standard they only run about 0.8 bar boost, are only 8:1 CR and yet they self destruct far quicker than our F6As - still can't get my head round that!

300+ bhp and 0-60 in about 5 seconds - so yes quick! But the weight kills them as a true sports car, even with the 4WD (and all the other stuff), live up to the name as a Grand Tourer though. They make going on a long journey a pleasure - look pretty sexy too
