They were originally part of a machine at the printing company I work at! Their purpose in this enclosure I'm making will just be a decorative housing where I'll place the crossovers, switches & circuit breakers

Had my whole interior out today doing the sound deadening - I didn't realise the footwells had the contoured foam underneath the carpet! Took 5 1/2 hrs to do the deadening so I hope it makes a difference

Thanks Sneaza
I only hooked up the focals to the amp a couple of weeks ago and the difference is huge like you said! I might be changing the splits to Dynaudio's... The tweeters are a bit harsh on the focals.

Haven't updated in ages (mainly due to my capp being in hospital with bent valves! )

I have retrimmed a steering wheel in leather

...and also started making custom kickpanels which will be trimmed in leather too

more to follow.

Finished the kickpanels now - those LEDs are bright!

edit: probably should mention that the kicks won't be the only thing in the interior I'm retrimming in black/grey leather so they won't look out of place!

I started making my demister knobs which will utilise blue fibre optic cable so that the dot lights up at night! I have had it planned for awhile but it's only taking shape now. You can see the evolution of the demister knob from a rough cut block of aluminium to the polished copy of the original below...

Thanks Andy and Olyfan! I made them with pretty basic tools - Drill press, a rough flat file, two grades of sandpaper and a hacksaw!

I just cut the block off to a reasonably close size, filed the edges so they were tapered, rough sanded it and then drilled a hole almost all the way through from the back and then used a minute drill from the front where the end of the fibreoptic cable will shine through I had to spend about 15 mins polishing it with brasso and then some metal auto polish afterwards to make it like chrome! Still another 3 to go!

No, it's just a hobby I have! (metalworking and fabrication). Anyone can do it if they have a bit of patience and willing to make a few mistakes along the way - like anything

Thanks Olyfan My plan is to replace a lot of the knobs and handles in the interior with handmade aluminum items (so it looks 'right') and retrim most things that are currently grey plastic in black or dark grey leather... lol club5000

Back on topic - those knobs are going to look SO great - I can just see an ice blue light coming through that hole and the lovely ally knob just looking wonderful.

All these lights and things - how much of a draw are these things on the battery - negligible or substantial - I have no idea.

Next to zero battery usage and LEDs last way longer than globes if they have good quality resistors I will only use one LED for the fibre optic strands in the same way that  those lamps work like in this pic:

I was even thinking about having them in the carpet too - from underneath , lol!
I am looking forward to tomorrow so I can make some more things in ally!

You will see a lot more of it when I am finished - probably not all at the same time though I got some Blue LEDs in chrome bezels that I am going to mount from the rear view mirror too.

I can make something if you want it and post it over, just tell me what you want! One of the other things I want to make is a chrome gear shift gate - like a Ferrari- then I can put a lock on it so it can't be moved too!

Looks grand stuff there CG!

Making stuff out of something benign I also like doing, but it's just when things are suppossed to already work that I'm playing with that I end up messing up    .

I like the knobs, but it must be awkward working with such small bits?
In my case I have too many thumbs and not enough fingers, lol.
There are times (like yesterday) I could really do with dremel instead of a hulking great big grinder, lol.

How are you gonna seal the Ally to stop that unsightly oxide forming?
Have you a homemade anodiser, or just gonna use a polish/wax or better still a laquer?

Thanks crisp, nah the knobs only take about 1/2 an hour (each) from start to finish. I cut them off in a vice and file them in the vice & when it gets close to being the right shape I just hand finish them... I could put nail varnish or something on the ally but I don't mind polishing the oxidation off once a month or so - It takes quite a long time to go back to the flat silver  and only about 30 seconds to make it like chrome again!
Here's a pic of the fibre optics shining through the end of the knob:
