It's taken a while to get this underway but I finally overhauled my rear calipers. A set of 'How to...' instructions will follow shortly. In the meantime here's a before and after shot.

Before

Notice the missing boot!

After

Much better!

After doing the rears, the fronts were looking rather sorry for themselves.

Caliper and disc back together again. Don't they look much happier!

(The strange pattern on the disc is the anti seize copper grease that was applied to the back of the wheel to stop it sticking.  When applied to the back of the wheel, rather than the disc, it only goes where it is actually needed.)

As I've not been able to test them out yet I have no idea! lol  Getting the MOT done next Friday so won't get to experience them until then sadly.  They will be a big improvement over standard that's for sure!  All discs have the ability to warp easily.  The 5 series, including mine, is well known for this.  Drilled discs have been known to shatter too.  I think it's over use of them that causes problems.  As I'm not planning on racing or thrashing my Capp I doubt that they will warp.  When you also consider the Capp's weight they won't be doing that much work to be honest.  The standard brakes just never felt that inspiring to use so decided to upgrade.  They also look nice lol

Both then lol

10w-30 is Suzuki's recommendation but the Capp seems to prefer 5w-30.  It also doesn't like being filled so try to keep the oil halfway between the two marks on the dipstick.  As for make it really does go down to personal preference.  Any good quality oil will be fine ie not some brand you've never heard of from the local supermarket.  My personal preference is Castrol Magnetec.

Yep. The W stands for Winter. Basically the first number is the viscosity when it is cold and the second when it's hot.

Having just been out for a test run after bleeding the brakes again I can say the brakes are a very big improvement!  I've never felt the Capp brake so well.  The pedal is rock solid too which it has never been.  The main problem with spongy brakes on the Cappo may well be the brakes not being bled fully.  When I went in for the MOT the pedal was so spongy it was awful.  The tester said that sometimes air can get trapped and after a little use it works its way through.  So if anyone has got a spongy pedal try bleeding the brakes a couple of times with light use inbetween bleedings.  The worst on mine were the rears.  After bleeding those tonight the pedal feels perfect.

I have bought new seals and pistons for my cappo's rear brakes and i'm going to attempt a refurbishment, what's the best paint to buy or should I just get them powder coated?

Yours do look like a top job!

Although I bought Foilatec Red Caliper Paint kit from halfords ages ago to do them, but i'm thinking it might be a better job just getting them powder coated? Anyone on here had this done?

Also is red a bit predictable?

Yep, stick with hammerite.  Does a good job!  No need to powder coat in my opinion.

The only problem with painting them yourself is getting the caliper body thoroughly clean.  Interestingly red Hammerite was much harder to get a good finish with than the silver I used on mine.

Guess I'll just use the red I have if I'm not going to get them powder coated! Although I'm a great believer in Hammerite, I'll definitely use it on the dust covers behind the disc's!

Thanks for your advice!

I initially used a 'one man' bleeding kit and found it very poor and found using the old fashioned 'two man' method of pumping the brakes and keeping pressure on, opening the nipple and letting pedal sink to the floor, tightening the nipple and repeating over and over again much more effective.  Depends if you have someone to help out really.

I'm sure it was just the one way valve on mine that was knackered.  The one you posted looks OK as it has a canister, which I presume you put brake fluid in, instead of just a valve at the end of a tube.

I hate the one man bleeding kits!  Never seem to do a good job in my experience.  Much prefer to do it the normal way, as long as you've got a willing friend!  Good luck with it.

Just ordered new pistons/boots/seals for the front calipers and new seals for the rear (pistons are still good) to finish off the refurb on the project car calipers.  I'll probably fit them to the road going Capp' once they're done though, then do the others at my leisure.  After fitting the new hoses and bleeding the brakes twice at the time with the one-man kit, there is still air in the system.  I'm going to bleed them again soon with the help of my neighbour, now I've done a few miles.

This is actually an excellent one man brake bleed kit, I have one.

The only problem is that it is designed for modern cars and none of the supplied adaptors fit the Cappuccino's brake fluid reservoir.

Sure is.  Mine weren't too bad as they were fairly clean.  The second set I did was a different story and simply wouldn't clean properly and took many coats to get a decent finish.  What did you use to clean yours?
