What size pipework were you thinking of using?

I think 2.5" would be about right - what replacement turbo would you put on the car?

Any idea if the turbo outlet elbow will rotate (are the fixings equally spaced).

I was talking to Jaik about it, we can try it out on Rusty - can cut holes wherever you like in that one, and the engine's still fitted. there were three ways of doing it -

1) straight pipe from the turbo outlet, inside a structural tube to re-inforce where it needs to go- easy & good for performance, not so good for noise.

2) rotate the turbo outlet, put a silencer where the battery is, then down & back into the footwell, then out - metalwork's not too hard, but would have to move the main wiring loom, battery, engine ecu, etc etc.

3) follow the existing downpipe until the bend, then go into the footwell, put a flatish silencer in the footwell with a heatshield over it, then up & out of the holes - a lot more metalwork, but less messing with the car.

All could be done, just depends how much you want to cut the car about.

Hmmm straight swap turbos are few and far between.  This pic shows the outlet and it wouldn't be possible to rotate it.

I reckon taking the exhaust off after the cat would give a fair impression of how loud it would be with no silencer so you could at least tell just what the volume would be like. Go oooonnnnn!!!!

OK - you beat me down

took the exhaust off Rusty, I have a video - any idea how to strip the sound off it & make an mp3 of it?

I think it sounds a bit tractory to be honest - the sound in the vid is pretty close to real life.

Couldn't really give it much of a thrash as all the neighbours were out in their gardens around (this one is in the back garden).

After hearing it I reckon it would sound much better with a silencer in there, or at least a bit more pipe length.

I did make one decision though - I don't like the dash I made, so am going to have another attempt. Here's a pic of the first attempt (not finished, but roughly to the shape it would have ended up.

Depends what it would sound like under load really. I think it sounds alright, but it depends whether it would keep the tractory feel or not when the revs and boost get up.

Nice one for making that video

I reckon it could sound quite good when driven hard, but the idle really doesn't sound good.

Suki has a near enough straight through system on, but with plenty of pipe length, and sounds very good at idle, but seems to get quieter with speed.

maybe a new front wing is required - with the holes in a different place?

It's a good job there's a lot less science to turbo exhaust systems than there is to non-turbo ones

I was looking at a Westfield today and thought if you had wide arches, you could probably get away with running the exhaust out of the front then down the side of the car (like this).

Looking very interesting, like the dash! Noticed the doorhandles have been shaved and all the gaps in the panels are filled!

You could have a play around with resonators for a different note

Weld the Bonnet to the Gaurds..like the E-Type, so it will lift as one...like below, Cut through the inner Wheel Well/Arches, Modify the Lower Guard and Install a set of Cobra Side Pipes..........SWEEEEEEEETTTT !!! . Like the Concept Bob, 'specially the Dash and Pllarless Windscreen Idea...very Modern Hot- Rod, then replicate behind the Seats to mirror the front ???

What a nice red little car that is Sneaza.

Bob, I'm tending to agree with these guys about the side exhaust setup I'm afraid and yjink it'll match in quite well.

I think it'll look REALLY different when done - in a good way of course    .

hmm...

I'll have to have a play & see what I can come up with - As I'm going to have to custom make an exhaust - any ideas on what Turbo to put on - what is the standard one good for, is it worth changing?

I think the standard one's good for maybe 85-90hp? The thing is, at higher boost the stock turbo just can't push enough air to keep it going at higher revs. A larger turbo will probably spool up a bit later in the rev range but should keep at full boost at higher revs.

Tried the side exhaust idea on Rusty today - I think it looks ok - would need a new lower panel making (not too hard), but I think it's definitely doable.

INSANE..........I like it. The overall effect is excellent. Is the Cannon actually connected...???, looks a bit long, and would interfere with Gearbox, not to mention radius of pipe bend to come back onto existing exhaust.

But using what you have done, If you Shortened the pipe and removed the Outer Skin under the door... Panel beat the metal to accept sidepipes, they would be virtually molded into the body, especially if you re-attached the Outer Skin and you could put back the lower Panel........it's just another thought  ......I really like Sidepipes.......

Black and silver.

Getting a lot of them I've seen recently around here.

Silver Cappo, Silver and black wheels, black Cappo side badges, black "S" bonnet badge, black touring rack....?????

Nah, not for me.Silver and wood touring rack from an LE would be nice though on mine.

Just for general road use - not really fir the daily commute, but definitely to use.

Need to get some work moving on it really, the new silencer is here for the side exit tho - pics to follow when it's fitted.

Some good progress this weekend, no good pics though - all the welding apart from one bit (where the exhaust will come through the bulkhead)is now complete

The tube that the silencer will sit in is now in & fully welded, the bracing is all fully welded, the floor patches are welded both sides, and I've worked out my seat and seatbelt installations.

Next step is to temporarily mount a front subframe with block, head, exhaust manifold & turbo outlet flange to let me build the exhaust system & cut the bulkhead to suit, then get the car on its side & clean the underside ready for paint.

Although my camera is AWOL, my helpful friend (who did most of the welding while I did his work - structural steel & wrought iron fencing) took some pictures with his phone, so you can see how the car looks now.

While I was at it I also added a bonnet vent, but as I couldn't bring myself to cut the bonnet, it's in the scuttle panel instead.

If you get the chance to use a Plasma cutter for cutting out steel, then do so - it's so much faster and easier than any other method I've come across - got to get me one of those

Picture looking forwards - can see exhaust tube in the passenger footwell.
