Catches oil and any excessive moisture floating around/going through the pipes. It stays in the can so it runs less risk of doing damage or building up somewhere harmful. You empty it periodically otherwise it overflows and goes where you don't want it too!

Not that I know of, They are usually fitted if you do some form of racing since engine is under more strain than usual and things tend to break now and then, having catch cans in a few places reduces a little bit of the risk involved when liquid suddenly cools hot metal causing fractures etc (that sort of thing). No harm in fitting them, a bit like putting a huge tacho on a stock standard car or multiple fuel filters visible from the exterior of the car - but does the job!

We have one on our race XR2...  It picks up the breather pipe from the valve cover.

It also falls off sometimes cos I need to put bigger self tappers in..

It's my wifes birthday the week after and your cash could come in very handy lol.

On a more serious note 6 sets of roll bars will be ready before christmas.  Its just a little side line between my main jobs, they will be 304 grade bright polished stainless steel and will be cheaper than buying the equivalent in Japan.
