Spent today inhaling solvent while I was cleaning the inside of the trailer capp ready for it to be welded onto Smashie!
It took hours of kneeling and scrubbing to take off all the stone chip paint that was librally applied to everything! I used 3 litres of turps so far it getting rid of all of the paint. I got the grinder out to lose the roof on the trailer but that only took about 10 mins!

Smashie is the topic!
I went to work on him again today, I started by cutting all the floor out and the area where the fuel tank was... I used 4 grinder discs during that period and they were only 80mm across afterwards! |

... Then I took the axles out of Smashie so they could be put in his 'half brother'! I used same barkyard techniques to get the axles out (and old vice and a piece of wire ): |

...But I couldn't work out what was going on with the axles in the trailer until I realised they had left part of the axle in but left off the rest. See pic: My initial thoughts were that I had an earlier model or later model diff setup than Smashie!

Last few days I have been taking apart the axle stubs in the trailer part of Smashie and swapping over the complete axles from the damaged subframe of Smashie, having that cutout above the diff in the trailer meant I didn't need to remove the subframe to put the diff and axles in! Gave everything a clean while I was there too |

Been neglecting Smashie for awhile! (he doesn't mind!) Last thing I did to him was cut off the doors and some welded in sections that were added on...
Today I had to remove the floorpan right off the spotwelds and get rid of any 'non-suzuki' parts on the chassis. Took a few hours to drill out all the spotwelds and separate the floorpan (no rust though! ). I cut off the rest of the stuff that wasn't needed. Getting close to cutting up the real Smashie now ready for them to be conjoined! |

I wouldn't normally undertake this sort of project but with Marty frequently dropping past to tell me where to cut and what to do it isn't so daunting! Too hard without that sort of expertise! |

Did some more to Smashie today, cut out the section that is missing near the rear shelf - a bit larger so we can cut it down exactly to size before welding |

... and I cut the top of the section that houses the top of the fueltank - still need to cut it right down to the floorpan but need to confirm with Marty where to cut the transmission tunnel - or drill out the spotwelds. |
