Dick - it's the showroomevent ones.  most car yards here have them for their 'Car of the Week'.  Scary as hell watching it pivot forward when you drive past the centre of gravity

I bought an engine.  A K10a VVT

Here it is in all it's glory

Self explanatory

Front showing VVT sticky-outy (technical term) bit

Horribly restrictive exhaust

Beautifully formed but E-W oriented intake

This is the colour of the oil (whats left of it) that the engine came with

No, the ea21r has a K6a.  The K10a comes from the wagon R - 1 litre

k10a - is that a 4 cylinder naturally aspirated?
if so, is it roughly the same size as the cappo engine and is there space for a turbo?

What are you going to do with your F6A when you fit the new motor?
I could be interested.

Davidclayton - yes, it's the same width, just a little longer (not much) and when the battery goes in the boot, there will be room for a nice manifold and turbo.

CG - Yes.  Yes it does

Grant - I may try to get as much as possible (rip someone off) on Evilbay before I offer it on here for a fair and reasonable price.

Nothing to update.  (See http://www.clubcappo.co.uk/board/Blah/Blah.cgi?b=CIG,m=1207887097 for more details) Cappo still in shed with caved-in front end and I'm 1200 Km's away working harder than I have in a long time to make enough to pay an ever increasing mortgage.
Although. . .    In the coming months my Cappuccino will be stripped to a fairly bare shell and rebuilt from the ground up.  If any one wants anything weighed, photographed or measured, let me know and I'll endeavour to get it done for you. Soonish.

Can I get opinions on Mazda's "Aurora Blue", as this is the colour I'm now considering.

Gr8guy - The K10a set me back a touch under A$900 from memory including freight from Melbourne to Gold Coast.  It was originally imported to replace a blown motor in a locally delivered Wagon R but local models didn't come with VVT, so there was absolutely no demand for it. I got a bargain - it even had the ECU still attached! (and a FWD CVT gearbox but the less said about that the better)

Dean - It's from the current Mazda 3 (or 6?) and they haven't really been around long enough for me to notice many stone chips, so I don't know, but that's something I'll have to keep an eye out for - thanks.

My main issues will be the inlet manifold - needs to be custom, and the exhaust/turbo manifold which was always going to be a one-off anyway.  Other than that, the Adaptronic ECU I have (thanks Grant) will happily control everything, including the VVT.

It's been done once in New Zealand but I don't think anyone on this forum will be able to answer that.

i rang up a few places where they supply the engine, they all say it very diifficult to do.
the engine  have to match. so  FWD or 4Wd won't work on Rwd.

Wow, it's been a while since I was in here.

Firstly, Ive been bad.  I've had the Cappo outside for a couple of months with a blanket and tarp over it.  The problem is that the blanket was held by the doors.  It turns out this particular tarp was not water proof and the blanket acted as a wick.  Left unchecked for some time, mould has had a chance to develop.

The steering wheel and gear knob went in the bin and everything else got cleaned with disinfectant.  The seats will need another go but they came up OK.  Now that I've almost got my sh*t together, I can start dismantling this car

Gotta be happy with that

Now I know why there was no warning buzzer

Clean on both sides

Now scrap metal

Nuts and bolts are really hard to get to when panels are the wrong shape but I'm getting there.

Well done mate, and about time....BTW, if you dont use the ORIGINAL Engine Brackets, assuming the fitment on the K10A will be different, I will take them off your hands. Let me know.

How did 9 months pass ?!?!?

Removed bootlid, rear bumper, seat belts and mounts, and some other bits and pieces today.

If anyone wants a fuel filler cover (sharp metal thing) or the little bracket that the jack sits under, you can have them for the cost of postage.  They won't be going back in.

OK.  I've removed driveshaft, gearbox mounts, 6 front subframe bolts, 6 bolt on top of struts, brakes, all wiring and plumbing and the clutch cable.  I still have to disconnect steering shaft but is there anything I've forgotten before I try to lift the body off the subframe?

As it turns out, there are 8 subframe bolts and an extra gearbox mount and a gearstick surround.

Body and subframe separated!!

I was warned. How stupid do you think I felt?

Is this the slowest rebuild ever???

Took the rear subframe out today.  FAR easier than the front.  Pretty clean underneath.

Which one was harder to remove?

Today I took off the rubber seal that goes across the top of the windscreen and down the front of the door openings.  Does anybody know if there is an ideal way to store rubber seals?

Took the dash out today.  lighter than I imagined it would be.  You can see that the windscreen is still in. There is SO MUCH adhesive!!! (not an original fitment)
