sorted! garage have the new turbo thanks to Bob. Should have her back in my arms tomorrow!
images of broken turbo:
as you can see the mounting bolts have bonded themselves to the turbo so they'll need to get drilled out! |

Has something got into your inlet system to damage the compressor wheel like that? Is it still attached to the shaft?

yeah still attached. i think what did it is a combination of constantly using the turbo on the motorways in France, and red lining it in a Tunnel in Lyon! The blades just must have buckeled under the immence heat etc
but i can't say for sure |

Sounds unlikely, if it was heat-related I'd expect the turbine side to fail before the impeller side? That said, I'd also expect the manifold to fail from heat before the turbo since they tend to be something of a weak link.
Can you turn the turbine and/or impeller blades? If they both turn, when you turn one does the other turn with it?
The impeller blades do look like they've made contact with something and the blade at the bottom in the first photo has fouled against the housing and buckled back?
Very curious to find out what happened with it. Bring it with you tonight |

Looks like it would definitely be worth checking for holes/damage to the intake system (filter, airbox & hoses) for anywhere debris could have got in.
If there are any pieces missing from the blades, then they must have gone somewhere too, hopefully passing through the engine without hitting anything, but maybe worth back flushing the intercooler to make sure there are no bits in there. |

good news; i have Reddy back! additionally whilst the garage had the engine apart, i asked that they not reattach the a/c compressor unit so now im a few KG's lighter AND have an a/c compressor unit surpluss to requirement! I don't actually know if it works as it has not been plumbed in for a good while but i see no reason for it to be in an unuseable state!
Update on that blister on the pannel; apperently "it's double skinned" which im in the understanding that it means there are 2 layers of metal below the paint and rust has got in there. It's repairable but the rust is guranteed to come back! so it looks like i'm needing a new pannel! Any ideas anyone? Cant really afford a new pannel from cappo sport right now so i'll post a "Wanted" thread i guess! |

It means they will have to cut out the portion of the panel and weld in a new section... At least you've got him back though! |

hey Jaik, where did you get that boost gauge from? i need a new mounting bracket for it as it sheered off after going rather quickly over some not quite level road in the peak district a few days ago! hmm or maybe a jubilee clip will do it .. hmm i wonder
oh ye, and as i've been woken up early by some idiot user @ work i thought i may aswell see who else is up this early!! |

It's a standard 60mm gauge so there are tons of mounts that will work. I can't actually remember where I bought it from, but if you do a search it might come up. |

thanks to my experience with the John Wayne engineering Co. i have bodged it on for now til i get round to getting a new fastener!
On trying to cure that annoying AIC tick i found that the IAC in my 11R capp is slightly different to that posted in Andy's thread in the how to forum.
Just need clarification on what to do; do i de-tatch the hose as illustrated with the fancy arrow in photo below? then spray in the cleaner?

I tried the spray cleaner but no joy - I don't think the IAC's are that much recoed/new are they. That's what I'd be doing if mine didn't fix itself! |

Should be exactly the same as the one in Andy's guide, I never noticed any differences when I tried to cure the tick. If I remember rightly you spray the cleaner into the lower fitting for the pipe you've pointed out. It made the ticking marginally better for a few days if anything Like capgun says, the only way we currently know of to truly cure the tick is a new IAC valve. |

I think circa £120 for a new one all in? It's a lot of money if your current one is working correctly other than the mildly irritating tick. |

Yep your IAC (aka ISC) is the same as mine and that is the correct hose. You can find the valve here by the way. |

My brand new still tickas a little to be honest even with setting it up exactly to the specs in the manual. Carb cleaner will only work if it is ticking due to deposit build up. Obviously if it is ticking due to the 'o' ring being worn no amount of cleaner is going to help. |

It's not as far as I know but it is possible to replace the 'O' ring. I did try to find some suitable fixing media as I don't think superglue is really the right stuff for the job |

bah, seems silly that such a small part can cause such agro!
well tomorrow i'll swing by halfords and try this cleaning stuff out, but as you say that it reverted back to ticking after a few days then it's more likely the valve itself |
