They're not legal either, but you could use a stick on plate like on e-types

Thought about one of these myself!

Might have been on trade plates?

If you do move/remove the number plate, check out the bumper first, there's a support strut behind the plate which might look a bit crap without something in front of it. I'm not sure if the bumper would be alright without it or not, but it's part of the bumper plastic so I assume it's there for a reason.

Whilst we're on the subject, I found my old set of plates in the cellar at the weekend. They're the same size etc as the ones on the car but without the GB badging. They're yours if you want them.

Some of the cars at Japfest 07 had stick on plates! Don't know how legal they are though?

George can correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember he had a proper front number in the car 'just in case'.  No stick on number plate is legal.

From DVLA:
Quoted Text
Number plates must meet the British Standard requirements and we are not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that are able to meet these requirements

What about if it was a long plate that was fixed to a raised bevel on the lower section of the spoiler?
Moulded in tastefully of course, not just slapped on.

How legal would that be?

Is there any requirement for the plate to be at a specific angle range to the vertical?
Would this be better for airflow into the engine & intercooler than the traditional plate mount?

You could make an inflatable one! Find some pool floatie and paint it yellow and put your rego on it... Where the air valve is run a pipe into the cabin where you can suck the air out of it when not wanted!

To be honest the main cooling, unless you have moved things around, is done via the vent between the bonnet and bumper.  As long as that is clear then the number plate could be mounted in the lower recess without causing any real problems.

anyone know if its ok to remove my front number plate completely? (thinking aerodynamic advantage with it removed)
an internet search prooved fruitless!

Whats your reason for removing it completely? Are you getting a larger intercooler?

Strange as it seems - I have been stopped due to the number plate twice - but not due to it's size!! The Police did not like the angle it was mounted. So I do keep a full size one in the car that I can stick to the inside window when going to jap car shows etc...

I have experimented with slightly taller lettering (stretched upwards to give the effect that it is taller) but it didn't look quite right.

Removed mine completely, to allow more air into cooler, and for looks, but have now re-attached it in same place as on George's car. After contacting RTA over here, It is illegal to drive without BOTH plates and demerit points and fine will apply if caught....as annoying as it is, can do without the attention from the old Bill.

You could have slimline plates Sneaza and hinge it at the top of the plate and attach a choke cable to the bottom so you can raise and lower on the go!

Welding is pretty much the only way to fix it properly, but there is functional welding and proper welding - depends what you're aiming for - for a great example of proper welding, see Barry's thread about his car - most functional welding doesn't have pictures taken of it, it just gets put back under the carpet

Simply put, all you have to do is cut away until you get back to good metal, then make a piece to fill the hole you've made, and weld it in.

The hardest part is where several pieces join together, and the cappo steelwork is very thin, and easy to burn through

I'll be doing the welding on Ron (the new one), so you can pop down if you like & get a feel for the process.
You are lucky in some ways, as it all appears to be in areas that aren't visible, so making the seam perfectly flush isn't as important as it would be otherwise.

yes, very moist!
although some of it is WD40 in an attempt to drive out the moisture!
have laid several layers of kitchen roll to soak it up so much better now

but still the leak persists!
has anyone a set of rubber roof seals to get rid of i could make use of?

Chris, you should think about investing in a car cover from Cover Systems! They're fanastic, you don't even get condentsion on your windows with one fitted! Paired with a drybag and you have one nice dry cappo! They also do just roof covers for about £35 if you use car everyday. I haven't seen one, but if its as good as the cover it should be amazing!

can anybody explain why all the cappos rust in the same place on the passenger side? i have the exact problem and waiting to have time to weld it up, but i would like to know what causes it so ensure it doesnt happen again. i recon whoever welded  it didnt put anything on it after, bare metal rusts quick!

i don't know about other cappos but my roof leaks amove that hole of rust, the water trickles down (the carpet is frequently wet) and gathers in the small shelf-like strenthening beam thingies. or atleast that's the theory i have ..

I think in the immediate furure, clingfilm may do the trick
