getiing at the rusty turbo and everything else on that side of the engine is via an access panel behing the drivers seat - it's easiest just to take the seat out before doing any work through it though |

I had to fit a new stereo - disconnected the original before I realised it was a 'keycode' and I hadn't reset the code so... BIG oops!!! Was going to fit one with an auto-changer but no room for the auto-changer - well without losing 1/2 the luggage space - so went for a sony that takes a memory stick instead. Then wound up having to change the speakers too - the originals just rattled and fell apart
Seats are a lot more comfy since I modified the mounts and the runners while I was re-covering them - managed to get nearly 2 inches of extra legroom

While the interior was half stripped last week so's I could fit the central locking, I finally (it's only taken 2 months) got round to fitting a boost guage. I'll probabley offend some purists by moulding the pod into the dash but I'm sure thre are more absolutely stock AZ-1s outside of Japan than there are there - even the one in the Mazda Motor Museum has had a few mods.
Anyway I'm happy with it which is what counts - when I came to fit it I found the vacuum pipe already there on the manifold (blanked off) so I guess it was always meant to be |

The dash has a separate section tha fits over the clocks and the top of the central console (around the hole for the strereo and the ash tray) , you can see it in the pic of the steering wheel. So I didn't have to take the whole dash out to do this, just 3 screws and unclip the cover. Just blew it over with some satin black paint after I'd moulded in the pod but I need to find somthing slightly less glossy - it reflects in the windscreen in bright sunlight. Anyone got any ideas?

I thought that part of the dash was vinyl! Maybe get it vaccuum moulded in black vinyl? Or paint it Matt Black (joking!) |

I agree it's not as nice looking as the cappo but I think this version (mazda speed version) is the best variation on the theme that they made, I'm not too sure about the ones with the grey sills and bumpers. It also has the bonus of the MS hadling kit, uprated coilovers and anti-roll bars, makes it such an amazing car to drive - a bit like a comfortable go-kart. Popped down the road earlier on for some petrol and 70 miles later..... |

But then again there was always this, the AZ-550. It was one of the original concept cars they built to test public reaction on the 3 different ideas they had for the styling of the car. Now if I could only get my hands on a set of those body panels..... |

Personally I think that type-C was the better of the three, although those wing mirrors look like a Friday-night-p!$$-heads dream come true .
I like the Greedy kit that looks like a mini-NSX, though it does look a lot wider and heavier

These arrived today - I've been after a set for 4 months but 3rd time lucky (and at a reasonable price too - first set I was bidding on went for nearly £200!) |

I'm guessing a word of explanation is in order...
In creating the AZ-1, Mazda/Suzuki designed the worlds first F6A powered greenhouse. Fortunately someone in marketing saw the obvious flaw in this plan and persuaded the company to produce these. They're 'sunshades', they clip into the top of the door/roof and hopefuly will make the car rather more comfortable to drive when (if) the sun comes out.
Dont look bad whwn their fited either - I like the logo showing through the roof |

Ah, that's better.
Let me guess, they were designed to compete with the Sera, Toyotas 4seated greenhouse?

Most cars with glass panels come with them but usually as standard. The MR2s certainly did. |
