And now the "worlds first" adaptronic powered AZ-1 now resident in it's little cubby hole behind the driver's seat. Once I get the cold starting issues sorted out, so that I don't need to plug the original ECU in in the mornings to get it started, I'll fitthe cover back on,

Whilst lying on the floor by the back of the car (don't ask) I spotted the car from this angle - thought it looked a bit arty

Only 6 bolts either side but there's the wiring for the central locking now as well - not so simple anymore.

There's a vid on u-tube somwhere of one being driven round  with no doors and all the bodywork off

New shiny bits from Japan

I'm just hoping the exhaust manifold bolts aren't as rusted up as they look, or this could mean a few days off 'sick'!

I really like it.
Would there be any reason why extensively modifying a cap to fit AZ-1 style gullwing doors would be a major problem??
Because this could add some extra spice to the Cap!!
Talk to Dany?? haha

Roof panels might end up being a bit heavy!   There's hinges that allow the capp's door to swing diagonally upwards though.

Oh yes. Silly me didnt think of the whole roof down situation..
Your right Sneaza, That could get awkward..
Thinking about it now with that in mind, I'd much rather a convertible anyway.

CG, Do you mean like a scissor door conversion?
I'm pretty sure I've seen something like that somewhere on the old CappuccinoSport site.. Wouldn't know now since its been updated tho..

Sorry DON! sidetracked thinking.. gotta stay on topic!

I  like the doors on georges car! In fact I must admit I was rather taken with the whole car when I saw it

I must admit, if I didn't have the bike I'd have to have somthing I could drop the roof on - I need my head in the sky fix!

...anyway - the exhaust is now fitted and looks a lot better than the stock one. And you were right Andy it sounds loads better too

I seem to have a bit more power, I'll have to wait and see what the Adaptronic make of the new setup.

Ok, I always wondered, is there any significant difference between Cappo and AZ handling?

(PS: I love gull wings)

From the brief drive I've had in a cappo I'd say the AZ-1 is twitchier at the front but sticks better at the rear. Once you get used to the light/fast steering the AZ feels better at speed (80+) I think.

At some point I'd like to try a cappo on the track to do a proper comparison, swap for a few laps if anyone fancies risking their pride and joy?

I believe there would be a big difference in handling at the end of the day on is mr and the other is rwd.... i would say the difference would be similar between a aw11 mr2 with a 4age and also a AE86 with a 4age.

The AZ1 i reckon would definitely have more rear end grip as the cappa would have more front end grip which would be due to where the motor is. Cappa in theory should be easier to drive on the limit where as the AZ1 would be alot harder but more rewarding.

Adaptronic was bought as part of the club buy we did earlier in the year. It was very easy to fit as it came pre-mapped for an F6A and with an adaptor loom that just plugged in after swapping over a couple of wires.

Well having now used a cappo as my regular drive for a couple of weeks I can say that the above is just about right.

The big difference I've noticed so far is when the cappo lets go at the back it's a bit of a 'Wheee this is fun! - better correct it' . In the AZ-1 it's more of a 'OMG!!, f**k, s@@t', fight to get it facing in the right direction again, then pull over to let the adrenalin die down - there's a lot less margin for error.

The AZ-1 defininately feels more stable at high speed, though more susceptable to strong cross winds. I'm guessing it's down to the aerodynamics of the different body shapes.

I guess the AZ1 wedge shape helps to push the tyres into the tar mac. Anyone considered putting vortex generators (like an Evo) on the roof line of a cappo?

One pic for 3 aanswers:

1. Chernobyl wanted to see the aftermarket air filter, back corner of the engine bay, same place as the standard one.

2. Adaptor for the filter made from rainwater pipe fittings ( I've forgotten what thread this was in now )

3. And I've finally given in to peer pressure and have routed the outlet from my catch tank into the air inlet rather than just straight out to atmospere (forgotten that thread too, but it was a while ago - thats my excuse anyway)

And on the air filter front...... when i do get an az-1... i think i have a very interesting solution lol (gonna need some calculations.. but venturi effect is the key ).

I forgot the golden rule and forgot to park with my bum sticking out slightly at the supermarket yesterday. Came back to find this and no information as to who had done it. It actually looks a lot worse in real life than you can see in the pic.

Fortunately there's no damage to the panel just the paint - now waiting on a colour match from Paints4u.

Once I got the bumper off to sort it out I discovered that this isn't the first tap my car has had up the bum, very little sign of rust though
