Welcome Readers, to my Silver mini restoration thread. I bought this car for the wife's 30th, but have since decided to do some "modernisation". The schedule of work is to include:
Minor cosmetic tidying (bit of paint) Waxoyl treatment N1 ECU Boost controller installation Door speakers underseat subwoofer removal of sh*te immobiliser installation of funky alarm install central locking install electronic boot release:
So to begin, I have stripped out the interior, who said that silver Cappos have more rust?

The old immobiliser was old but well installed. All the wires were black and it was immobilised in 4 different places. I had to identifty exactly what every wire did as there was no wiring info or manual with the car. It took a while and I was slightly nervous about making the first cut. Thankfully I got it right and the car started perfectly after I removed the old unit.

That's it for the moment, I will update as I progress. Whilst her car is off the road she of course has stolen my Cappo so I have a good incentive to finish hers sharpish! |

I thought you said it was wired only in 4 places, not 40!
|
|
Thats all the new bits going in. The new alarm what with all it's sensors and ancillary functions has about 50 different wires

Is that why someone has painted on some rust-cure paint stuff same as mine?
|
|
I don't think anything has been painted on the interior. Has it? I thought that was the factory stuff on it. |

|

That's just the seam sealant stuff that they put on at the factory, just the same inside mine. It's also the lack of this (or similar gloop) on the external seams that makes the cappos rust so badly. I've recently had all the suspension and transmission removed on mine and gave all the exposed external seams I could find a good coating of wax.

Not all your "seam sealant" is that colour - see 1st photo, rhs, it's same colour as rest of car.
Just checked mine and the sealant around the tunnel (where's there's no"R") is silver same as the rest of the floor pan. Yours looks like the same colour as the rust-cure paint stuff someone painted all over the top of my seams and all over the top of where the seams and metal USED to be as well, including all over the silicon sealant(!) stuffing one of the holes. I was told on here it is an aftermarket rust cure/prevention paint. Not that it does any good painted onto the sealant (either seam or silly silicon), only when painted onto the metal, lol.
Either way yours still looks fairly solid and in excellant nick - especially compared to my Swizz Cheese version, lol. The bit in post 2 and around the wretched bungs might need a little tlc help, though? |

The "Drivers side" post shows some rusty stains emerging from beneath the sealant. Mine had that on the passenger side. If you catch it & treat it now you may be able to avoid any welding - just make sure you treat inside & out. As to whether or not the pink-ish colour is normal or an after market treatment, I guess it's difficult to tell from a photo. I just checked one of the pics I took while waxing the interior, and some of the (non-waxed) bits do have a pink-ish tinge to them. I would guess this is a reaction between the silver paint and whatever the original sealant is made of. Maybe someone else with a silver cappo can check theres as well - mine is now covered in brown wax

I did actually check mine but as it's mostly rust it's probably not the greatest of comparisons lol. I would say the seam sealer on mine though is a lot less pink and closer to silver than the stuff appears to be in Paolo's pics. |

It looks silver "in the flesh"
I think my camera is a bit camp, what with turning everything pink.
I have had a closer look and I am pretty sure it is factory stuff on there. |

Door speakers, these were a PAIN to fit. Needless to say the doors are now slightly lighter
The sound is awesome, real good stereo imaging, so much better than the footwell speakers (which I still have in)

Not much clearance here, took ages to measure so that the doors would shut without them rubbing. Got it right first time though!

With her big brother, what a pair! The work has transformed the car, so much so that I now need to do some work on the red one to bring it up to scratch.
The remote engine start is particulary cool, the wife thinks it is some form of black magic, and cannot understand how a car could possibly start without a key!

Do you get any fighting at the HF end having 2 sets of tweeters like that?
I have Pioneer dual-concentrics as well, but in the footwells, and I'm considering disabling the Pioneers HF drives (leaving just the stock tweeters in the top of the dash) to cure this.
edit forgot to add : both cars looking good!
