Because I couldn't figure how to attach pics to a PM.......THIS IS FOR CAPGUN.....

But info. could come in handy for others, so here goes.

CG gave me the 'Volume' required of 1.7cu ft, to 'House' the sub he is using in his AMAZING Stereo install...see ( 'Silvery Album' ), which I then needed to work out the size of the Enclosure required. Not being very clever at this kind of thing, asked my Daughters Maths Teacher, who gave me the result as 36.4 x 36.4 x 36.4cm.

So, armed with the dimension, made a Cardboard Box.....

Attached a Front Piece and Inner Piece.....

Idea being, that, while still retaining a comfortable seating placement...assuming you're not 7' tall, the Front piece would be the FURTHEST FORWARD you could place a FRONT PANEL to hold the Subs and the inner would be where Original is now.....

Intriguing....hhmmmm....

This is like watching an old 40's Saturday morning serial at the Cinema (my dad told me) or in my case I was dragged up watching BBC2 on a Sturday morning.

Queue music Litzt"Les Preludes"
Queue b&w actors : Buster Crabbe, Charles Middleton, Jean Rogers, Priscilla Lawson...
Queue suspense...
Queue end credits...

"TO BE Continued ......"

This is great!

You're going to a lot of trouble for me, thanks Dave! (bill me for anything like the beans that you bought for this too!) Does it look like two lots of 1.7 will fit in the 'boarded off' area you created? Or is that a bit optimistic?

....continued pouring, and trying to get shape/form so as to 'LOOK' the part....

at this point, I think you could get the shape without 'Blocking' any rearview activity by having the 'Humps' behind the seats...???

So my conclusion to this CG.....

I have used 1 1/2 boxes to get to what you see here.

Because you will never play at 'FULL VOLUME', as I said, I believe that the measurements would have some give and take, Therefore the Volume
wouldn't need to be EXACT.

As you can see, you could probably squeeze a little more if shaped correctly around 'Rear Window'. But angling the front will reduce the 'Volume'

But, doesn't allow for your 'Hoops' and Subs attached 'a**' out, are going to interfere with your seats.....

CG, I didn't mind doing this it was educational to some degree, though I must admit, I didn't do anything like this for ANY OF MY ENCLOSURES, and realistically, probably wouldn't bother, but then I'm not entering mine into competition.

There is NO CHARGE for this...lol just glad to be a help and other than the Beans, had all the other bits....Let me know what you think.

Wow, certainly has been very educational, Sneaza.

I never realised the parcel shelf had such little volumetric capacity!

^ Bigger car or lose the passenger seat area entirely!

I like the shape you've made Sneaza - the hump rising between the two seat headrests What I am going to do over the next few hours (been out all day towing dead car shells across the country! ) is make a flat cardboard template that will fit the round edges of the 10" subs on and post it to you. I will check that it clears everything in my car (I have the seatbelt strut brace out now) and go from there! I just need to be able to put the seatbelt mounts in!

I'll post back here in awhile after I have made a template up!

Stupid camera is out of batteries!

I think the smallest way to mount them is: (I made a cardboard template)

Draw a circle that is 270mm across the full width,
Draw another circle exactly the same diameter next to it and have a 6mm gap between them,
Draw a line that is 10mm away around the outside edges of both circles,
Directly frim the top and bottom edges of the lines mentioned in the step above draw a straight line across  - so the two circles in the middle have a 10mm border all the way around them and it looks like one piece (bit like a pair of binoculars - end on),
Final dimensions would be 290mm high total and 576mm wide total (with the two 270mm circles inside the rounded 'shape'.

see below:

will that shape fit Sneaza? Just need to measure height and width! I will cut the shape out of 10mm thick ally if it does!

Just had a thought with regard to your pic.......Do you want them to sit as drawn...??? or could they be placed Vertically...???

Give me a while and I'll alter what I filled up and take some pics to show you what I mean....I do have a template for 10" Subs as that is what I am currently using and what my Designs are Based around....I'll be back soon....

Thanks Sneaza
They can be mounted vertically but that stop the roof handle being accessed?

No it won't. As per your post, the 'Smallest way'.....The concern I thought was about getting the required 'Volume'...??? Placement is a personal thing which is why I was concerned about the requirement for your seats and also you wanting to keep the hoops.

If you mount them vertically, above the window release, this will clear your seats but may restrict your rear view through the window...I'll double check tomorrow. Can you tell me the Depth of the Sub when placed 'Face Down', this will help.

The measurement of the subs face down is 3.5inches or 9cm high.
How do you go with rear vision with the sub in the middle? That might be the best way! Thankyou

Well, what do you think....??? I drew your shape with 10mm all around and in between, followed the curve in middle, then 'Taped' it to my enclosure.

Where it sits you will see out of the rear window (more than mine) and be able to use release handle....BUT, as you can see, there isn't any room to have them sitting the way you want them........

Placed onto a front panel......then draped T-Shirt over to see. You can get the curved shape, BUT again, you will have trouble, unless you modify the bar, attaching your hoops.

Conclusion.......It's totally a personal thing.

That said, It can be done very close to the 'Volumes' you require, BUT, the subs will need to sit flat, as in pics....

If you forgo the 'Recommended Volume', then you can pretty much place them how you want......though again, need to think about seats and hoops...

I hope this helps...??? let me know what you think.

I thought initially that's the only way they can fit looking at your pics (thankyou ).

Then I thought - if they have to be flat (which I agree that they do!), then why don't I still mount them inverted but recess them so that the ends of the magnets are where the front of the speaker would usually be (flush with the enclosure).

I might lose some of the volume again but that's the only option I think!

Thankyou again Sneaza

LOL.......

I can see it, not hard to do, just fiddly.

Can do it when the front panel is made, just as I did with the 'Cable' recess in the 'How To', and by doing that, will look soooo different, unique, yes, you will loose some 'Volume', but, the Humped Curve will be reversed, therefore allowing for the Hoops to be used....

Hey, no probs mate, if you like I can draw something up for you as a Guide...???

I would use a 10 litre Plastic Container....See Below, and wrap 2 layers of Fibreglass around the outside so that you will have a nice smooth finish when it's peeled off and same thickness as the Parcel Shelf..... and 2 layers just of the INSIDE BOTTOM, rising at least 50-100mm, this can then be attached to Outside.....

Outside Base will have a lip recess, which wont look good.

Have one in shed...will check tomorrow and let you know otherwise, next size up and you would only need to use as much 'Depth' as you required....ie: only Half, say from 'orange pic' down....given dim. of Sub.
