Sunday 2nd November saw the 10th OPENcafe meeting take place at Hamanako Garden Park near Hamamatsu (between Hamamatsu and the Suzuki Kosai plant, the factory where the Cappuccino was built).

OPENcafe is the biggest Cappuccino event in Japan, and this year was no exception with 450 Cappuccinos present.  As part of the application process you had to specify the colour of your Cappuccino, the reason for this?  All cars would be parked by colour...

Eveyone going to the event had received a numbered ticket though the post prior to the event, on arriving everyone was given a welcome pack; this included, brochures from the traders, pin badges, stickers and a program.

By 10:30 most of the cars were parked and an Opening Ceremony took place, then everyone gathered for a group photo (about 600 people).  Following this a 'talk show' took place.  Three of the orignal development team from Suzuki talked though the development story of the Cappuccino, from the initial concept work on P89 (the 1989 Tokyo motorshow car) through the development to production.

After this the 'Goods' stand opened (official merchandise), and massive lines formed to get hold of OPENcafe stickers / lanyards / towels / shirts / keyrings etc.

During the afternoon there were interviews with the traders and later the 'Garage John Garage Band' performed.

Later in the afternoon there was an award ceremony (best car, a photo contest had taken place, furthest driven the the event, and a 'Special award' which we won for being the first overseas visitor!).  Then a raffle took place.  There were loads of prizes, from copies of K Car Magazine to a Garage John carbon front bumper!  After the raffle had finished the staff started handing out photos, the group photo from earlier that morning!

It was an excellent event with loads of interesting Capps.  Really well organized and in exellent weather (we got a bit of sun burn).  Thanks to the OPENcafe staff for their hospitality.

Andy

Launched at the show - the Baby Cobra Japan conversion - not cheap, expect to pay over £20K at the current exchange rate.  (I think this includes base car but there are a lot of options to take this figure even higher)
