OPENcafe 2010 took place last Sunday, 10th October, after very heavy rain on the Saturday (same storms that caused the F1 qualifying to be postponed)  I was worried it was going to be a washout.  However, it turned out to be a scorcher and we got very sun burnt!  'Only' about 300 cars turned out for the show, down about a third on 2008, probably due to the weather and the F1 clash.  A good show all the same though, there was no parking by colour order (that was a one-off for the 10th aniversary) but it was excellent to see a car park full of Capps!

This time there was a better organized Dress-up Car Contest (concorse) with 9 Capps entered, each owner was interview in front of the crowd around their car and everyone got to vote for their favourite.  Cars enetered varied from near standard 120000mile daily drivers, to full on show cars with vertical doors and one piece front-hinged bonnets.

One car to be first shown at OPENcafe was this green Cappuccino.  It had just been completed and featured some nice details.  The colour is Porsche GT3 green and the interior was nicely detail with green highlights on mainly carbon trim.

A sister car to the above was this blue capp, rolling on 17" wheels with a front hinged bonnet and some interesting front end mods...

Out in the general capp parking there were some intersting capps,  this pale blue capp has just had a Japanese magazine feature and had a the pale blue trim through the cabin.

This bodykitted Capp is the Toyoshima Craft http://openuser.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/user/t1043922 demo car.  Toyoshima Craft are the guys that make the ducktail spoiler (the one on my car) along with a full FRP capp kit and FRP parts for other cars.

Another (almost) fully Toyoshima Craft kitted car is this one owned by Taro-san, he's got some awesome looking deep dish 14" TE37s on there but his car uses the standard rear bumper.

A few cars were sporting LED rear lights.  There use modified truck units housed in polished standard rear lamps.

One intersting car was this Capp conversion 'Alsora'.  In isolation it wouldn't be obvious it's a Capp based car, the boot / rear over hang has been extended and the whole conversion had been well executed.  (there was no sign of the 'Baby Cobra' this year though there was a Lotus Elan front end conversion)

Rear lights are Mk1 Mini items for that late 50's / early 60's feel.  You can see here the extension to the boot, as well as the MX5 door handles.

The interior had been fairly throughly re-worked, it now includes a double DIN head unit.  Somewhere I have a magazine article with this car featured in it.  I'll dig it out an scan it if anyone is interested.

Later in the day the Dress Up Car Contest winners were anounced.  The green GT3 Capp was the overall winner (rightly so).  The trophy was massive, the sort of size that would cause problems getting it home in a Capp!

The owner / builder said he was trying to create a car with 'Total car balance'.
The interior was stunning, with nice sublte details like the green stitching and the striping on the carbon door rolls.

After the main show came to a close (at about 3:30) small groups of owners gathered to photo their cars in groups, there was the 8-spo club (cars with Watanbe / Black Racing / Panasport wheels).  The members of this group all seemed to be wearing brown short sleeve boiler suits with 'Cappuccino' embrioded across the back.

...and what looked like the 'roof scoop' club.  There was a vertical door (Lambo style) meet up and photo shoot, and, after it got dark there was also the 'Night cafe' meet (Capps with underfloor lights).

I hope that there's some inspiration there of your thinking of modding your capp.  The show, although smaller than 2008, was excellent, and thanks goes ot to the OPENcafe staff for putting on a good show and the Capp owners who made us fell welcome.
