As you might know in August I moved up a bit on the power to weight ratio scale.
I had trouble importing the car, the Dutch licensing agency made it an issue that the engine wasn't a 3 cilinder as it was supposed to be. So I aborted the procedure.

This Saturday I brought the Gti Turbo to Nox6, a talented Dutch Suzuki Swift tuner who works with GTi Turbo's on a regular basis. I asked him to have a look at the car and see where improvements could be made. The long race from UK to Netherlands took its toll and that needed to be taken care of.

My short list :

-high oil consumption (solved?)
-high coolant fluid consumption (solved)
-leaking exhaust gases near waste gate
-high fuel consumption (maybe normal for such a performance engine
-braking pulls to the right (solved)

and a Dutch license plate !

Coincidentally there was another Swift GTI Turbo conversion present, the same engine but a totally different concept : a FWD Mini Mk1. The owner was happy to take me for a ride. My RWD Gti has pretty long shifts, but his were very short and he had trouble getting all that power to the road. Besides that his adaptronic caused the engine to stotter, so he switched it off. It was an unique experience though, we chatted all way back about cars

My plan with the Gti Turbo is to make it a reliable car for road and trackdays. The current power to weight is comparable to a TVR T350C. I seriously need to learn how to control all that before I want to push it to its limits.

Hi, it is, last update is that the coolant leakage was cured. Excessive oil use might be because an oil tube appeared to be bent, need to have the car running some miles before we can progress with that. The sump is a true work of art, it's mounted backwards ! Next on the list is to make the exhaust system gas tight. From there we can try to get emission levels within the Dutch regulations. From there we can import the car on it's 1300 4 cilinder engine, not sure what is wisdom concerning mentioning the actual BHP on the registration. I can be honest about that but then they make it an issue making it road legal. I can also downsize the output on the registration papers, but then insurance might cause trouble.

I am totally not in a hurry, so I have time to get everything in order before summer.

I bought a Subaru Forester last week to help me through the winter, and it can pull the cappo to the track if needed. I intend to make the Forester an expedition vehicle, for a ride from Amsterdam to Dakar in 2015.

update : The manifold needs a rebuild, there are too many cracks even inside the tubes. Apparently the creator used an incorrect electrode, pressure is in the bends, the walls are too thin, so that explains the cracks.

I will not go for stainless this time as the chrome look deteriorates too quick anyhow.  The weight difference is neglible. I will tape it up which looks nice too

this is quite obvious : it cracks above the welds, which is b.a.d.

I finally was able to take a picture of my cappuccino collection. The yellow I use as the daily driver, the grey is having it's manifold made. My Subaru Forester that I intend for a new off roading hobby couldn't make it for this shot.

Thanks, the GTI cappuccino gets a lot of good attention by a very skilled mechanic. He's a godsent. I hope to have it all ready before spring 2014 and make a few rounds on the track

Meanwhile I picked up this offroading hobby. It's awesome

I went to the tuner yesterday, the exhaust system is now gastight. Because of blue smoke when idling, and lots more blue smoke when revving I needed to take the car for a ride to determine if the turbo was damaged, or it was just oil residue. The first kilometre it stayed blue, after that no more visible smoke The engine runs very smooth right now, and it pulls very strong. Too strong for todays wet roads !

All that remains is the rear brake, which needs replacement. At this moment we don't see any issues getting it through the licensing agency. I might do this next week or wait for spring as it doesn't make sense driving itin this season anyhow.

What power is it running currently? About 160 isn't it? 13 second standing quarters was my target for mine, so yours should pass that easily with enough grip. Offroading is fun isn't it my advice though; don't do it in a vehicle you like, or rely on. I keep breaking stuff constantly lol.

I was told 200 by its creator. Feels like 200 hp too..it does warpspeed ! The only way to be sure is to put it on a dyno. Both the previous owner and the tuner say it can deliver even far more power than it currently does. let's assume it can be 240.

I have doubts on what to put on the license. The tuner recommends a temporary squeeze to get inside sound and emission levels, then put something like 170 on the license. Insurance wise it is better.

yeah, they're awesome little motors; I would think capable of Atleast 240. Can't remember what had been done to it, has it got forged internals etc.? At 200whp and with good tyres it'll toast most things. Just watch how Waynes car goes, granted with a constant mesh 'box and 13" race slicks, but you get the idea. I suspect rwhp of your Cappo would be somewhere around 170, so technically not lying

I'e been shopping for engines here in Japan, and it looks like the G13B has plenty of room to spare and stephen b only mentioned that the Jimny tranny is a tight fit. I've come across the M13 and M15 engines that are newer and have DOHC heads, so wouldn't these engines also serve as a suitable starting point to tune/turbo a project here?

I ask because a M13/M15 engine can be had easily for less than 160 pounds whereas the GTi G13B engine is a bit harder to find and over 700 pounds and both will need rebuilding/tuning anyway. The M16 is a little bit cheaper than the 13B and it has more displacement. Not being a Suzuki tuning expert (and not being fluent in Japanese), I wanted to ask here.

Am I correct in that the M16 would be a better tuning base engine than the 1.3L and that you guys in the UK use the 13B because it is more readily available or am I completely wrong on this?

Well, the M13A is used in the Jimny and my understanding of the blocks is that they are are the same except for cylinder cc. For a little more than 400,000Yen, you can bump up the M16A to 1.8L. The Jimny tranny should bolt on....but holding the power may be another story.

I have never measured myself, but in the photos, it looks like there is additional room that could accommodate an M13/M15M16 engine. All three are less expensive than a G13 engine here.

Latest news : the manifold cracked again, so I went for a full rebuild. JMTuning is creating a custom manifold. They are awaiting the laser cut flenses which shoud take about two weeks.

My steering boss came in, so I detach the wheel. I figure that a key is easier to carry than a steering wheel but hey : because racecar.

And Somehow I ended up with a full Toyoshima bodykit. Roof and bonnet go to a fellow forum member. the rest will be fitted. It's obvious the color of the car will then change to black.

I picked up the Toyoshima bodykit in Scotland two days ago, during the roadtrip i had some time to think about it and I came to the conclusion that I will stick to the current dimensions of the car, which is sleek. (no fender extensions)

Hi Donna, the budget packaging is still holding out.  I think we'll see an update in Kei's diary soon. I am heading back to AMS tomorrow morning.

It looks like I will use the frontbumper, (maybe) the front fenders, trunk lid and  rearbumper.

the side skirts and wheel arches I don't need. maybe a future owner will want these.

I might have the rear aches rolled out, then use spacers to have a slightly wider wheel base.

I am not sure about coloring the car yet, I'll keep the midnight purple in mind
