After almost a year.. UHU finally arrived to Hungary
After waiting 4 months for the transport company to pick UHU up(money was paid in advance of course) they told me I need to pay an extra 300gbp on top of what I have paid already. So I decided,I`ll bring the car home myself(of course no refund from transport company, lost more than the price of the car ).Uhu had a turbo problem,so driving it home was impossible. So I started looking for a van, which is big enough to carry my cappo home.I didn`t have enough money for a recovery truck, and I dont have driving licence that is good for towing a big trailer,so I started looking around, what would be big enogh for the Job.
The Mk6 ford transit long wheel base seemed to have long enough loading space, but there were questions about the width... the cappo`s widest point is 5mm wider than the narrowest point of the transit`s loadspace. 5mm,not much, but can be a big issue.I decided to risk it.I got the van in november 2010.Eventhough I was ready to pick my cappo up,there was a small problem again...Winter.
So I had to wait, wait, and wait. This was my longest winter ever.
Last week,on the 14th finally I started my trip from Dublin with my Dad.We went from Dublin to Liverpool, than to Manchester to pick up Porsche rims for my friend, then we drove down to Bristol. We arrived at Don`s house around 11:30pm,and of course,it started to rain
And the big question Again: Will it fit?? It has to....
and about 30mins later, the cappo was in the transit it was unbeliveably tight though..
After this, another 1200miles of driving, and saturday 5:00am we got home,,with the first cappuccino in Hungary (afaik)
Here are some pictures..
The car is not in its best form at the moment, but its already under restoration.on saturday we fitted the replacement turbo and took it for a short spin,it was a priceless moment for me
I live and work in Dublin,so i had only 3 days with the cappo, and I had to come back
My Dad is so in love with the car, that I decided to give Uhu to him.At least it stayed in family.(so I can still have it when I go home for holidays )

And I want to say thanks again to Don,for being so patient and helpful!!!

A quick measurement shows that a late model Toyota Hiace might be big enough as well.

Would love to see pics of you trying to climb out after loading

I looked into using a LWB transit and there were mm's in the sideways clearance, so its clearly doable, but snug!

I would make Ramps the Length of the Car, that Permanently sit over the Wheel Wells, that way the Car would have NO Clearnace issues.....though it would still be a tight fit......Well done though.

Cheaper than a Car freighter.......

Yeah Sneaza that was the first plan, but the higher the vans gravity centre is,the more instable it gets. We wanted to see first if it fits like this or not.I had the spacers with me to lift the ramp higher than the vans inner wheerarches, but we decided to leave it like this

Uhu went into the bodyshop today,my dad stripped out the interior of the car.It requires quite a bit of welding,it has been "repaired" before with glassfibre, which will be a pain to remove, and repair properly.
The rear bulkhead on the passenger side looks really bad. Floorpanels might do with repair.I hope they can be saved.

SMall update, loads of rust everywhere, but everyday less and less.most of the glassfibre repairs removed already.

There is still loads of welding left to be done,I`ll keep posting pics as soon as I get them.

UHU is back in our garage today,,guys finished with the welding and painting, but they forgot to paint the bootlid unfortunately.2 rear quarters, and 2 seals painted, and all weldings sealed.Bootlid needs to be painted, and the rest of the car will get a 2stage polish, hopefully I will be able to restore the color.paid around 500gbp for the welding and painting.now new rear brakepads, replacing the front springs, tidying and repainting the engine bay, re-assembling the interior, and so on.. and I'll be back in Hungary next Tuesday for 2 weeks,so finally I can do some work on UHU
few pics:

My last weekend here in Hungary now,,but finally,,I have the HUngarian registration for the cappo,so I have the first road legal cappuccino in Hungary It wasn't easy,as they didn't even know that this car exists,so it wans't in the hungarian system,I had to get all the necessary documents for the first registration.
I had some trouble with the headlights, because we are driving on the other side of the road,so I had to modify the beam of the headlights.I will post some pictures of that later on aswell. It wasn't as hard as I expected it to be.
I got a set of plugs, new oil and filter, and fixed the turbo wastegate problem, got new pads on the rear, cleaned and partially refurbed the rear brake calipers, works superb now.Car is still not spotless, but its road legal now,and I'm really happy with the results so far
I refurbed the window trims with plastidip, looks a lot better now,and wrapped the bootlid in carbonfibre vinyl ,as the guy in the bodyshop didn't paint it for us..But I like it this way.
unfortunately the paintwork is faded in different shades on some panels,so the car would benefit from a full respray, but its ok for the moment,,looks a lot better than before
I removed the turbo boost controller, and I'm running standard boost now.the engine bay still needs to be tidied up,unfortunately no more time left to do it
Now my waterpump is unfortunately gone, but will be replaced soon. Its between -10 and -20C here at the moment,so UHU is sitting in the heated garage all day
I will post some more pics later on,I only have a few for now.
