After the mare of a journey home last Thursday in heavy snow. I only made it a couple of miles from work & decided to leave the car on my folks drive way & walk home (only a few miles, it took about an hour & ten minutes). No traction at all, when I did get some I was going sideways!
So I've decided to invest in some tyre socks. I propbably won't need them again until next winter now, but it's piece of mind. I know I can always make it home with these in the boot. Well they'll be on the tyres when I need them, they'll just be stored in the boot until then!
Here's where I bought mine from, they were just over £50 with the postage for the Cappo's standard tyre size (165/65/R14).

When I use them I'll let you know how well they worked.
For those that use your Cappo everyday even if it snows, they have to be worth a punt.
If anyone has tried them before let us know if they work!

I consdered these for my BM but if you do use your Cappo all through the year then it might actually be better to buy a set of winter tyres. Something that I'm going to have to do with the BM as it's undriveable in the snow! These can be put on the car from November to April and then you don't need to worry about putting the socks on and off. |

I know someone who has snow socks and says it transforms the car in snow. You can't drive with them on dry tarmac, though, as it rips them up.
Winter tyres are better when it's cold but you can't use them above about 6 or 7° (like today!). Well you can, but they wear quickly. They're intended for countries that get very cold. We could do with an intermediate tyre for this country really. |

Winter tyres sounds like an expensive option. I'd have to get another set of alloys & tyres, which won't be cheap. Then store them somewhere in the summer. |

Alright for some! Bloody freezing here.
For me the best option would be winter tyres but it wouldn't suit everyone. |
