Noooo!  They're much better.  Most importantly they have brakes that work all the time not just for the first few corners.

You can also adjust the stiffness of the suspension by changing the shocker settings so they are much better in the wet and generally stay on the track instead of hurtling off at the first rain drop.

General grip is also better because the chassis is a lot stiffer than the classic mini and of course you've got a lot more power for dragging it back onto a straight line when you do loose grip..

I think that for a road car they are very over priced for what you get...  I'd like one of the new Fiat 500s ..... They're cute and the Italians are already talking about racing them

They were really really cool cars!  I'd love one ...

My ancient aunt - she's 92 we think - has a 1946 Fiat...... She knew the Agnellis before the war and when it was all over she went to Italy to buy one.. They could only sell her a rolling chassis so she bought it, fitted a seat and drove it to Austria where a bodybuilder she knew built her a Porsche type two seat body for it out of aluminium..  It's a beautiful little thing and she had it fitted with all sorts of concealed cubby holes so she could smuggle booze and cigarettes back into the UK...

I'm hoping to inherit it one day - probably soon

I had one when I was about 22. It was like driving a sewing machine - but like the 2cv it was fun - if more elegantly designed.

Then had a 500 brand new about '82 and ran it for ages... good little motor. I lik,e the design and spec of the new one but SWMBO has always hankered after a new mini.

Here's the Mini......

This shot was from the first meeting last Sunday. We got it finished in the nick of time. Had trouble getting new suspension springs and some shocker bits from LEDA..... They arrived with three days to go so sod all time to get them fitted and tested.  Suspension being just a wee bit critical this did not please us....

However, it all hung together well....... Results? Well a day of significant progress I think given this was Andrew's first Mini race and the testing we'd done was with the old suspension.....  He qualified 10th in the wet but finished 8th in the first race, then 5th in the second race and finally 2nd in the third race.

Next meeting is on the 27th so some time now to relax but do a bit more testing.

Of course everyone's moral took a beating on hearing about David Leslie.  Andrew was quite upset because David presented him with his cup in 06....  He was such a down to earth guy and last year he took up an offer to be the guest driver at one of the Mini meetings...  Sad..

Yes there's a "sports and saloons" class but every race is won by a 700Bhp 4WD Ford Focus!

Look forward to him being 1st next time then

Very sad news about David Leslie.  He would always take time out to talk to you at the Touring car races.  Great bloke!  RIP.

Yay!!!  A great weekend....

Two seconds and a third plus a new lap record and fastest lap

The only frustrating bit was that in the last race he'd just taken the lead when it was red flagged.....  Because they count back a lap he had to accept second place.... I told him it was "pyschological win" ....

There's a really cool vid clip here... The guy in the yellow car is the guest driver. A TV presenter from Scottish TV called Stephen Jardine...  Really nice bloke but he said that when all these minis kept hurtling past either side of him he nearly sh*t himself !!
