it is finally here, still haven't driven it though as yet to insure & tax it, have just moved it round the drive a bit so far, i have to say, they've done a good job!

I admire your restraint.  I'd be driving it, insured or not - the temptation would be too great.

this may be an odd question, where is the reverse light?

The car looks stunning mate, there's a couple of things i wouldn't do with my car but its given me a couple of ideas for my project also.  All in all its a VERY fine car.

This years looking good for the UK cappo with yours, Andy's and soon mine restored to fantastic levels.  I know of another car thats been fully restored to original and if Lord pulls his finger out that would make it close to 1% of all UK cappo's

You dont have to have one over here, you dont even need a reverse gear.

Yes that video was rubbish. The others may be just as bad though!

How does it drive?

it is extremely fast & noisy, suspension is really wound down plus little padding on the seats, plus 17's & skinny tyres = extreme ride. you hear the turbo spool up clearly, it goes from very load to overwhelmingly load in a moment. Only been up to 8k rpm so far, it is best described as violent, almost like being mugged by the volume, the bumps in the road and forward thrust. The first time i drove it I couldn't think straight I was actually very nervous, the paddle shift behind the steering wheel is like the shifter on a bike, so pull the left lever for 1st, the right for 2nd - 6th. left lever to go back down through the gears I think - you see I can't remember - thats the cars fault as I lose the ability to think because of it.

it is happiest accelerating, doesn't seem to like holding a constant speed, seems to corner heaps better then stock. Speedo is on kph - I got up to 140 ridiculously quickly. Standard brakes with black diamond discs & pads simply will not reign it in. I am standing on the brakes approaching roundabouts in 2nd gear completely off the throttle. This was a big surprise as I always thought the brakes were good on a cappo - I am guessing its the extra torque thats driving right through them

It is frankly amazing & I love it - however I would not describe it as fun.

A fun Cappo is one with a 120bhp tuned 660 engine, not too loud, easy to control. This is more like playing with your life (particularly in the absence of a decent set of brakes!).

Zcars are picking the car up on Thursday - I wrote up a snag list as requested - e.g. the forward charge in 2nd gear when off the throttle might be a mapping issue, its idling around 1300 rpm. I am getting the brakes upgraded too, no point in being able to go fast if you can't slow it down just as quickly.

Cheers
H

I'm a bit surprised about the brakes being this insufficient when it comes to stopping power. I mean, Black Diamond disks and pads really almost felt like an overkill for 90bhp, so I'd have guessed it would just be not really enough, but not what you describe

But ok, you've got more than 3 times that power anyway, so it's only logical that you're getting really bigger brakes.

About suspension, isn't there a way to raise the car a little and soften up the springs / shocks ?
If the ride is that harsh, it might not be anything but scary unless you're on a perfectly smooth track.

Hopefully just needs a good bleeding.  Failing that, does it actually provide any vacuum at idle, or is it already making boost?

Edit: after watching the video, it seems to idle at around 1.5k so that's probably not the problem.

Check the brake servo and master cylinder are OK, the master cylinders can fail and fill the booster with brake fluid...

a nicer ride is only some smaller rims and fatter tyres away!

unfortunately with cars, the looks vs comfort are usually a compromise

this car, wayne's beast, and jesse streeter's cappo (all for their own reasons) - are in my mind the best in the game today
