They wasn't when they arrived

But they are now

I'm sure you'll have seen hints of this white pearl colour, like on the front end, this is the colour the whole car will be going eventually too

I don't think they are real, no.  They have a nice glossy finish, better than some fake carbon I've seen.  Found them on ebay, quite possibly old cappo sport stock.

They are actually hand painted original trims.  Very clever.  I've got the door handle trims, dash inserts, cluster and steering wheel column shrouds.

Made a start on the drivers sill

Middle sill wasn't as bad as expected so decided to work with it and fix the lower sections of it

and the bit of the inner arch at the back

Old sill removed

But I did manage to carefully remove the cappo for use later

Built up the last bit of inner sill

Then began rebuilding the middle

The back

Everything ready to go

Swiss cheesed my new sill

Fitted

By the time that last picture was taken it was gone 3am, so we didn't end up finishing it popperly.  Currently looks like this

Will tidy further later, but right now I'm worn out.

I managed to get a tyre fitted on one of the wheels to do a bit of test fitting to see what's what.  For future reference this is a 195/50/15 tyre on a 15x8 ET0 wheel.

Popped it on

With arch

Clearance is good

I could have room for a slightly larger tyre if so desired

Then I took the same wheel and stuck it on the front with the plastic liners removed

Little bit tighter but still manages to squeeze in just

I checked out the clearance on lock, got to here

And as expected it fouls.  It makes it past the arch lip, but fouls the rear of the inner arch.
Other way

I could go lower to clear, but I think I'll just trim the inner edge of the lip back for more room.  definitely less of an issue than the other side anyhow.

So options available are fit a smaller tyre.  185/50/15 do not seem to be available so that would leave either a 195/45/15 or a 175/50/15, both of which would give a similar amount of extra clearance.   That on its own may be ok, but it may not so, I need to engineer in more castor into the front the suspension or modify the rear inner arch for more clearance.  Both will involve lots of head scratching, but it will be nice and look pretty cool If we can get these wheels to work

Looks good, but clearance could be a major pain once you take into account fully loaded and fully unloaded, how much inner clearance have you got with that offset?

I like where this is going!

Still trying to find a really nice set of rims and then I am planning to get wider wheel arches like this, it makes the capp so much more aggressive looking

Doing some research, all the semi-slick options for tyres i.e RE11's, Toyo R888's all come in 195/50/15 but not lower, I guess it really does depend what you want to do with the car!

Low profile 888's would be damn uncomfortable, i used to run the 185/60 on stock wheels and with coil overs it made the long journeys very hard.  I dread to think what my new 225/45's are gonna be like.

As the offset is lower inner clearance is more than the standard wheel, so no issues there.  My only problem will be with outside edge of the sidewall/tread making contact on lots of lock.

Looking back at the pictures the amount of lock possible should be plenty for most high speed corners and only really cause an issue when performing 3 point turns or very tight turns like hairpins, say slower than 30 mph.  Full compression is really only going to happen on the hairpin.  Looking back at some of the widebody cappo's their wheels are around this fitment, some even more which makes me happy that there is a solution out there   If we can get another 5-10mm clearance out of the inner arch all should be well.

As a last resort I could go get the mounting face of the front wheels machined to remove a few mm.

I currently run 185/60 on the stock wheel too and it can be uncomfortable over big bumps.  I stole this tyre off my boyfriends CRX as he has just fitted another pair of Yokohama AD08's to match his fronts.  Although the AD08's are track oriented the tyre noise is quieter and the thicker sidewalls help to absorb the bumps better.  Go figure

Oh, while I was fitting the new wheels yesterday I compared the weights with the originals roughly by lifting each wheel tyre combo.  Not much in it, but if I had to pick I would actually say the new set up is lighter!!

I like!

My fronts are 17x7 et 22, I had suspension arms extended 1.5 inches with adjustable camber, and I had them cut away material from under the arch and also the inner wheel arch was modified

- I think  -

I didn't have time to check on my last trip back!! My car is a bit low, so I can't make full lock - if its raised it clears OK for MOT.

Cheers

That is amazing . I recently sold mine, and this is where i get my cappo porn now .

As for the intercooler, it looks a really easy fit. So apart from moving the radiator back, did you have to make anymore modification to it fit the way you did?

Thanks

I was going to get the same wheels. I seen somewhere they sell them 15x7 front and 15x8 rear.

That would be the easy option   The 7J wheel only comes in a high offset, ET38,  so if you fit bigger arches you'll prob want a 25mm or larger spacer to fill the arches up a bit.  Even with the spacer you'll have  quite a bit more clearance on lock too.

Lose the aircon radiator, slice and inch off the radiator pipes, modify the rad brackets and your good to go

The one you posted is the same core, but those pipes will be too big, you'll need to reduce them down to 2" and even those need further reducing to mount up to the tubby and throttle.

I'm afraid I can't I bought it ages ago so it not on my ebay anymore.  I'm pretty sure 800bhp was the seller but when I searched only big ones are on there at the moment.  If you look on the universal intercooler thread there may be some more links there

Nothing too strenuous today.  My fuel lines didn't make it with all the pulling about while the floor was done so I bought newies.

New clips too, no pics fitted but they are on now.

I also adjusted the splitter for more wheel clearance.

Left the other side for today

As all the welding is done on the drivers side now I decided to add some bling.  Lost the old wheel and knob and fitted my Nardi and a Monster Sport knob.

Much better

Really wanted to get my new wheels on in time for Kei Kars In the Park next weekend.  I would have liked to paint the whole car really, but there isn't enough time.

Started making some room

Rather than rivet, I got hold of some Aluminum dome head bolts, that way I can remove the arches as and when needed, such as painting.

The fronts went on quite well, slight gap at the back of the arch

And started on the rears

They're bolted on now but will need a bit more tweaking as the bolts didn't have the length to meet up at the front arch mount.  Have to order some longer ones.  I also want to come back and spot weld in the nuts behind on a few mounts on the rear quarter to make it easier and do a bit more tidying underneath the rears.

Also got my boot off to smooth a few minor dents out and got it in primer too

Ordered my tyres too.  I went for a 45 profile in the front for more clearance on lock and 50 in the back so my speedo reads about right.  Finding somewhere that sells the same tyre in both sizes was quite a task so I ended up ordering a pair of each from different places.  They both turned up, but one company has sent me the wrong model of tyre so they will have to go back and get swapped before I can get them fitted.  Fingers crossed they'll be on for KKITP

It looks quite good, I'm looking forward to see these arches painted.

Now, could you do some track driving so you can tell me how the wheel bearings are holding up ?

The pictures make it look good and there not perfect just yet, they're just on. The rears needed a bit of adjustment where it meets the bumper to sit flush and as mentioned the front most mount isn't connected yet may possibly need a bit of work there.  The fronts go pretty much straight on.

The actual arch shape are a little wider than the arch of a cap but tweek inwards enough to line up.  on the rear we mounted the arch lip in line with the old lip before it got cut out, the fronts went slighty lower than the arch lip so both bottom edges of all the arches are around the axle line.
