Been very busy lately what with car shows, parties, work and helping my little bro decorate his new house, so not much has been happening other than completely knackering myself out ;(

I did manage to get to the garage on Saturday as my arches needed a bit of help, well im so glad my mechanic has got patience with her as he ended up cutting out the rear arches and 'tubbing' them for me, sorry no after shots as it was late as per usual ;(

In the next few weeks the engine will be coming out so I can get the engine bay fixed and painted, and have a general tidy up with the engine etc, I WILL make sure I take pictures for this one

Your mechanic is good!! Love the new pics. Is that George's cap??

I would love to see the rear end stripped. Especially under rear arches.

Could be his arches then, because they were exactly the same IIRC. Handy to know, should I need some.
(By MX-5 Dan's arches, I mean the fella that makes them, not ones that have been taken off his car )

Little update on the engine bay refurb we did last weekend, what a long weekend it was too

Stripping commences

Engine out

This is what we had to fix, more filler in places than B&Q

Grinded down and ready for repair

Bits ready for sanding and painting

The new Black Diamond clutch I bought, as you can see is too big, so we had to put the old one back in for now

All masked up and ready for some POR 15

Paint on

All back in with some new hoses etc

Shot for Steve (its still Black)

Shots for Lord of the underside of the rear arches

Please bear with me with some of these pictures most were taken in the dark.

It was extremely hard work, got to the garage at 6.30pm on Friday and got home at 1.30am on Saturday, then back again at 10.30am on Saturday and home at 6.30am on Sunday.

Nothing planned for this weekend other than a good clean as I am preparing for a trip to Wales next week

Nearly got an s13 for £500 from an old lady :O 2 owners from new, both old women, 70k on the clock, full year mot, taxed etc etc. But then her greedy bastard son got involved and started dreaming. Wanted £4k, so I told him to have fun selling it.
Instead I have an e30 drift car now, my Cappo race car project and my hilux Smurf for mud, camping and work

Update from the garage today:-

Window screen fitter came and removed the screen to find the screen hadn't been fitted well and it has leaked on both sides at the top.

The underneath wasn't too bad apparently just a small amount of surface rust, needs a bit of a clean up and lick of paint on the a-pillars. Thankfully no more cutting out and welding.

Fitter is returning tomorrow to fit the new screen so ill post some pictures up then

I need to pull my screen out soon, there's a gap at the top right - it doesn't leak but I can imagine water sits in there!

This is what I arrived to yesterday

Had to clean up and repaint around the screen and a-pillars.

Window screen fitter came back to install the new screen, we found a couple of slight chips out of it, just above where the rubber fits around the screen, thankfully not visible and its all fitted lovely

Getting on with it then! Should look awesome! I'm refraining from doing anything cosmetic unless it has a purpose (aka aero work) as I don't want the car to be tidy, just competative

The Plastidipping didn't quite go to plan. The air gun and compressor we initially started to use had a problem and wasn't keeping full constant compression, therefore the Plastidip was spraying pretty much invisible.

I then went out and bought one of these Earlex 3900 Guns

We spent 2-3 days prepping the car and fixing a few dents here and there, which was very hard work ;(

This is the finished product

There are imperfections and reactions in the paint on the bonnet and in a few other places, the primer on the over fenders seems to have also reacted with the Plastidip so they need to come off and be done again.

It is quite a rough finish too not smooth like most paint.

We used 3no 5 litre tins of White Plastidip pre-thinned and a 2.5 litre tin of Glossifier.

I also put some White Pearl Metal Flake in the Glossifier but its very hard to try and get a picture of the Metal Flake, its quite subtle.

The actual spraying process probably took a good 1/2 of the day because you have to allow time for drying inbetween coats.  The prepping was the nightmare and took ages.

I got my Plastidip off some guy on ebay a while back now.  Plastidip UK seems to be where everyone's getting it.

Apparently you have to be careful because there are a few fake Plasitdips going about that are not as good quality.
