Its been a very long time in the making but my cap is pretty much finished now except for a few small bits and pieces. The new engine has been run in and is getting tuned as we speak. It's suprised me at how much of a head turned it has become as it gets alot of attention wherever i go
Mechanically the car has been behaving perfectly, until yesterday when it was strapped on the dyno for a limited power run, where i found the limits of the standard gearbox when it destroyed itself now i have the major task of finding someone in australia that can build me a stronger gearset that will be able to handle the power that im going to be putting out. Looking at the power that the engine was putting out before the gearbox blew im fairly confident that this is the most powerful F6A around
AS soon as i get it back on the road it will be appearing on the covers of Zoom and High Performance Imports, 2 magazines in australia which im over the moon with
heres a pic of the engine bay |

Three thumbs? Bit of interbreeding going on in your neck of the woods guys?
Got to agree though, stunning bit of kit Dave. Look forward to scans of the magazines too |

Impressive stuff! Any chance of a rundown on the spec?
Crux do a close ratio gearset - not sure how it compare to standard strength-wise...
Looking forward to seeing the magazine features.

that 125kw is at the wheels im not too good with percentages but it would be a fair bit more than 169bhp (30% more if im not wrong) but willing to be corrected |

Transmission losses are probably around 20%ish at a guess.
Paolo has done a simple conversion from KW to BHP which is correct but doesn't take into account that your figure is at the rear wheels and bhp is at the fly. |

So we are talking more like 200Bhp at the flywheel? No wonder the gearbox gave up |

nice, did u happen to have any on that power on the road. or u put it on the dyno right away? i so want around 200 bhp and want to know what it is like to drive in a car like this. surly it could be a lambo killer? |

well my old motor had just over 150hp at the wheels,it was pretty fast - easily beat rx8,200sx,300zx...the only thing you have to worry about with getting this much power out of a cap motor is that you have to realize it was never made for this much and you're kind of pushing everything to its limits so eventually something will let go, as ive found along the way with almost every part of the car,the only standard thing left in my cap was the gearbox...which has ceased to exist at over 125kw
i calculated that at 150hp a cap has more hp/litre than a brand new evo 8 lancer- not too bad for a three cylinder |

oh and that 125kw never saw the road, only the dyno - gearbox would have lasted for 5 seconds on the road
im not giving up tho !! |

I don't know if this will help but from my experience (old drag racing days) more than half the time that gearboxes failed it was due to the casing not being strong enough and either flexing or breaking causing internal gear damage.
A carefull inspection of the casing and gears is needed when pulled down to try and determine the problem. If it appears that its a casing problem we used to get them stengthened by a decent welding or head repair shop but if its weak gears this may mean you have to adapt another box. Years ago we used to adapt Celica 5 speed boxes to Holden sixes & v8's with good success.
What part of OZ are you in? |

Get them to check if there are any chatter marks on the gears or evidence of the gears not running fully seated. This would indicate that the casing has flexed and needs strengthening. |
