Hey everyone

In the process of buying my first little pocket rocket.

My names Adam, 22, and located in Dorset south UK, currently own a RX8 that has been modified a fair amount for drifting.

Going to be doing up this little cappo and also do the very occasional drift day.

Hi All,
I have become a Cappuccino owner as of two days ago.  I have always hankered after one since wandering into a Suzuki dealer in 1995 and seeing one in the showroom.  I was at the time buying an SJ for my then girlfriend (now wife) The car is in very good nick and entirely standard.  I plan to leave the car in dry storage until the summer when I will use it for fun trips only.  Other interests I have are canals and Narrowboats and also Brass Bands (the whole family play brass)

Not sure if I'll be taking the pocket rocket to Japfest this year. Not enough time! And on track with our Dc2 Integra. But I'll be making an appearance either way 😁

Hello all, my name is Andy and has recently purchased a cappo in New Zealand.

Previous owner spent the last couple of years rebuilding the car, rust treatment, new paint job, engine overhaul etc.

I am not the biggest fan of the color  but I'd much prefer this than rust !

Hey, everybody!

Name's Rich, from Boston, Massachusetts, USA.  Not yet an owner, as they're not legal for importation until next year, but until then....research, research, research!

I think I'm pretty much set on sourcing a UK car, as I figure at the very least the paperwork will be easier, as it's already in english.  That and I have a few trusted contacts in Europe and the UK already.

Thanks for having me!

Hello, I should be picking up my cappuccino any day now. I'm from the south west of the UK currently living in Bristol. I'm flying to Inverness to collect it and then driving the 500ish miles back down to bristol. (wish me luck!)

Here it is. let me know what you think and what I should be looking out for. Can't do a lot about it as iv'e already purchased it on ebay!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZU....._cvip=true&rt=nc

Not sure on the rules regarding links but if its against the rules, please ask me to delete it, or delete it if you wish.

Thanks for the welcome.

Forgot to mention it has covered over 120,000 miles!! I am very concerned about that, what do you think?

The owner has sent me pictures of work carried out 3 years ago (although not brilliant photos) and a lot can change in 3 years when it comes to rust. I have bought the car and so am legally obligated to complete the sale, so even if its a rot box I still have to drive it back! Also I'm purchasing a one way flight and would be stuck in Inverness if I chose to say it wasn't as described.

Do you know of any specialist insurers as I have tried a few (e.g. adrian flux & carol nash) but they wont offer me cover. Go compare has worked out at £554, which I didn't think was too bad considering I'm not 20 yet.

I had the same dilemma when I bought mine.  Travelled all the way from Rotherham to Tonbridge Wells with £3000 cash in my pocket on an ebay purchase.  As you say you can always cancel the sale if it's not as described but then how do you get home?

Not a bad price at all for a 19 year old to be honest!  We've had members before paying over £2000 at that age before.  Best advice as usual with insurance is to get quotes from as many places as possible as every company assesses risks differently.  I don't think our official insurer, Diamond Insurance Consultants, would be able to help due to age but it's worth a try.

Hi Sheffy,

If it was me I'd ask him if it was ok to transfer £100 to his account for him to Mot it and change the oil and filter before you set off to pick it up.
I'd be very reluctant to embark on a drive of that magnitude without some degree of certainty that it wasn't going to kill me.

A quick check of the weather forecast could make the difference between a drive full of joy or full of bum-clenching terror due to a combination of wind, rain and lorries who (like Father Ted's Dougal Maguire) thought you were far away rather than small.

Before you start mixing it with traffic, half an hour on some deserted road (plenty of them where you're going) getting a feel for how it steers, stops and handles could save embarrassment later.

When you fill up (it'll be empty as he'll have used the last of the fuel to say goodbye to it properly) the addition of a can of that (BK?)244 stuff that Power Enhancer sell will remove any build up of clag in the engine.

It's one of the few additives I've used that really works.

A tankful of Premium will then get your relationship off to an appropriately respectful start.
Check the tyre pressures and you're off.

You have got breakdown get-you-home cover, haven't you?

Having said that, both my Cappuccinos had sat about for about a year before purchase and neither of them gave me anything but a feeling of utter bliss on each of the 100 to 150 mile drives home.

I stayed off motorways though.

I think I'm quite jealous of your impending trip.
One way or the other, you'll remember it for years.

I still smile about mine.

Thanks for the detailed response!

I did ask about the MOT but he cannot put it in yet as it is too early. I might try and change the oil when I pick it up, buy some oil on the way down? It's MOT'd till June and has only covered a few hundred miles since the last MOT. It has been garaged since he has owned the car so hopefully the rust repairs he had done 3 years ago are still lasting!

I was thinking about going non motorway for a while just to get used to the car as it is my first RWD car. Previous cars being a 1.4 106 and a 1.3 Corolla.

I will look into that fuel additive you recommended as it may not have been used much recently. The 100 miles he has to drive it down to the airport might help.

Unfortunately I only have breakdown cover for my current vehicle not personal breakdown cover. I will see if I can swap the cars on the policy.

I am excited yet dreading it at the same time! I really cannot wait to see the car, hope its as described and try to enjoy the drive home.

What do you think about 400 miles of motorway though? Safe with regular stops? Or should I just use the 'avoid motorways function'?

I thought similar too, whatever happens it will be remembered for a long time.

He can put it in now and you should make sure that he does.

You can Mot a vehicle whenever you want, second hand car dealers do it all the time.
The only restriction is if you wish to preserve the "anniversary" of the current Mot's expiry date.

In that case you can take it for Mot a maximum of one month before the expiry date and (assuming a pass) the expiry date of the new Mot will be exactly one year on from the expiry date of the old one.

If you take it for Mot outside this one month (before) period, your new expiry date will be one year from the date of the Mot test.

E.g. Expiry date 1/6/15. Date of successful test 1/5/15 or ANY date between 1/5/15 and 1/6/15. Expiry date of new Mot 1/6/16 (13 months).
Expiry date 1/6/15. Date of successful test  9/2/15. Expiry date of new Mot 9/2/16.

The weird (but very handy) bit is that even if your car fails the "early" Mot, it is still Mot'd until the original Mot expires.

Still with me?
No, me neither.

I'm sure you've read enough on here to know that a Cappuccino can turn itself into something resembling a pile of crushed Weetabix during a slow pass through a car wash which is probably why Suzuki tell you never to go in one.

Keeping one in a garage isn't the answer either although it will stop the paint fading.

Please don't think that I'm determined to frighten you to death as there's every chance that there's nothing wrong with it, after all they are a brilliant piece of engineering.

But if there's nothing wrong with it why wouldn't he take it for Mot and a light service given that you're going to be driving it (or standing next to it crying) for the thick end of a day.

I suppose it's very possible that he doesn't know that you can have an early Mot.

Looking on the bright side you've bought it at a very good price given that he has sufficient confidence in it to drive 100 miles to meet you.
Have a look on Tradecarview and see the ever increasing prices of even very average (though not rusty) Cappuccinos in Japan.
It shouldn't be too long before UK prices start to harden to somewhere more appropriate to the car's rarity and ability.

As for motorways, if it's very wet I tend to stay off them (in the Cappuccino) as I've had a couple of moments involving blind/psychotic/texting lorry drivers.

You seldom feel more vulnerable than when your mirror is full of the bumper and radiator grille of something weighing 15 tons or whatever the bloody things weigh.

Oh yes, don't forget that the indicator stalk is on the right of the column as signalling you're pulling out by giving a couple of casual sweeps of the wipers isn't something you'll get away with too often.

I've just realised that you'll be able to drive the A82 which is one of the best roads on the planet.
You're in for an absolute treat, it's best introduction to rwd you could have.

That's it. I really am jealous now.

Enjoy it.

Thanks for the education in MOT testing, I never have properly understood them, but in my short time motoring thus far I already dread them.

I completely understand what risks I am taking here with this car and usually I would fantasise for a while and then convince myself not to 'chance it'. However with this little cappuccino I am somehow compelled to buy it regardless! Bad or good, who knows yet?

I am slightly worried that either he didn't know too or has not put it in for an MOT knowingly (e.g. its a pile of rust and he knows it will cost a fortune to repair!) - Hopefully he's in the same boat as me.

If worst comes to the worst and it is heavily rusted, I have a few mechanically minded friends who have already agreed to help me out.

Is it not recommended to go through a car wash then haha?

I've also just checked out the A82 on google images and it looks stunning! Cannot wait! It's making me feel slightly more positive about the supposedly 9 hour journey - that's without stops...
I will be arriving back in Bristol around 1:00 am if I take a few stops on the way, will be a long day!

presuming this is the right place to say hi to others!??!?!

To cut a long story short, I collect random cars, and have owned a number of oddities over the years albeit mainly Audi related such as NSU TT, DKW, Gurgle X12, VW's, Auto Union etc etc and I also attend our local antiques auctions on a regular basis.
2 weeks ago was a little different to many previous auctions as there were 2 cars for sale from a local deceased estate. A 2006 VW Fox and a 1993 Cappuccino. The latter obviously caught my eye. As it's not an auction where cars are normally sold, there wasn't a massive amount of competition so ended up coming hime with me.
A few things attracted me to it from a collectors point of view, it's a 1 owner low mileage car (43k), and there was a huge history file with it.
I had my mechanic pick it up for me that afternoon, and go over it. It needed a clutch and a small repair to the n/s front wing and then she went for an MOT where she passed with no advisories.
She has zero rust, always garaged and after spending 2 hours going through the history file and putting everything in date order, there is everything in there. Original sales invoice, deposit receipt, all old MOT's, receipts for every service, and all main dealer. I felt a bit bad afterwards that I sent it to my own mechanic as he's not main dealer, although I trust him with all my cars and know he's good.

It's an absolute hoot to drive. I have a 911 GT3 amongst other cars and I have to say, this puts a bigger smile on your face and it doesn't feel like it's about to kill you at the same time!!

I was going to put it up for sale, but have started using it as a daily for the drive to work as it's so much fun!

Hiya folks! Ive joined up to find as much info as possible about the cappo Ive been on the modified car scene since i passed my test 16 years ago, had 64 cars in that time lol but for the last year or so ive been in my company car and been all serious whilst sorting out moving into my new house I now have a garage and hopefully spare cash to look at a nice long project!!!
Now ive had every car you can imagine, most more than once! but my favourites have been skylines, rwd turbo I have always tried to go for something a little different aswell, this is where the cappacino steps in!
Ive been trawling the internet for months looking for ideas and this funky little car hits the spot!
I will be doing an engine swap for sure, this is where I need to find out what has been done / what can be done / what cant be done etc my initial plan was the renisis engine in the rx8 lots available as donor cars, another idea is the 1.4vw tsi engine thats easily making 200+bhp its all down to room and dimensions though. I want to keep the engine small to keep the handling and weight distribution good etc by trade im a mechanical engineer / cnc machinist so im not too scared of attempting anything extreme.
thanks in advance
